Bought my brother in law a 650 gs today !

He is going through his second mid life crisis. So today we picked up a 2004 (december) 650 GS. Good little bike. The previous owner only did 2300KM on it ! It has warranty till december 06 and was serviced 800km ago. When I spoke to the mammy of the previous owner she said "he never had a licence so thats why the kms were so low " Best of all it came with a top box and abs ....all for €5900 euro. What do you think ?

Very strange indeed. It shows the bias of this board is 1150 / 1200 GS's. Anyway I've still got my 1150 . But the 650 is a great machine for the money.

i absolutely love my 650gsd. wouldn't have done the special stage in Y Lon Gefn (Welsh Boreen Run) if i had been on my 1150gsa

I'm off and away to Germany next week for a few days, Eifels and the Black Forest... and I'm going on the 650 Dakar, leaving the 1200GS Adventure at home

In fact the Adventure is up for sale... for in the real world it doesn't do anything that the 650 won't do

I don't want two up motorway touring at 100mph... and THAT is the only place the Adventure excells

Strewth, am I getting old? Have I lost the plot? ... or being honest?

I've had a couple of the 650s when the 1150 was in for warrantee work

Initially thought what are giving me But, turned out to be fun........without the weight issues. Perhaps we like the big ones to panda to our egos

You're bike looks awesome, how did you do the Dakar graphics?

Strugglin through the Gobi Desert I promised her a new coat if she got me home safe... she did... so I kept my promise

Painted silver (BMW car colour) but laid it on satin style finish as per the Adventure. Graphics from pre 2004 single spark Dakar. Fitted a 19" front wheel for general road use... handles better in the twisties. Aquired a spare rear wheel complete with disc and so have Continental TKC 80's on that and the 21" front, for any future off road use etc. Five minutes to swop

I fitted a 19" front to my Dakar following Micky's comments in an earlier thread and can't recommend it highly enough - a huge improvement.I used a wheel from an early F650 Funduro rather than a GS as I couldn't find a GS one at a price I could afford.The rim is a bit narrower than the GS one but it's the same at the hub so it fitted straight in using the standard Dakar spacers.

That's interesting Tony.. I couldn't find a S/H one so bought new The Funduro is a narrower rim, but still same size tyre fitment... so no probs there. I note the Funduro has the speedo take off on the front wheel so I gather that the GS/Dakar spacers 'fill the gap' so to speak!
