Hello all,
1999 1150 gs unfortunately I have experienced collapsing of my brake line, original rubber so looking to upgrade to braided lines all round ahead of a 3500mile trip in about 10 weeks time. Could anybody please suggest 1 or a few companies that have worked for them. Tried to search the site but not coming up with much?

Thanks in advance.

Dan

Brake lines

Had the same issue with mine, speak to Motorworks, possibly not the very cheapest but you will get the right ones:thumb2 Cheers:beer jug:John B

I bought from Hel but there was at least one thread which had posts from several folks who had had Hel lines come apart. Mine were fine, had done around 35,000 miles on them including a lot of dirt roads when I sold the bike.

You'll probably need to phone and talk to them as there are a lot of variables on GS's

I just bought a set from Hel and got excellent service from Shaun in their motorbike department. Definitely lots of variations though so worth a call and a bit of time.

If you can afford to be off the road for a couple of weeks, take off your existing lines and send off to Goodridge. That way you will get back exactly what you sent. Be wary of ore boxed stff as not all models are the same.

Got mine from Motobins - they're made by Venhill and they seem to have all the different ones necessary for different models. The ones for my 02 1150GS ABS all fitted fine and look good. Had the same problem with original ones breaking up inside.

Got mine from motor works - goodridge hoses, work a treat and fit perfectly.

I've just ordered a rear braided line direct from Venhills. I emailed the technician and got some great advice. There are far too many variants over the years of with / without servo / with / without ABS... My bikes a year 2000 GS with ABS and no servos... Motorworks sent me a Goodridge line but it's 1cm too short as it's for a servo bike... Their mistake and they're giving me a full refund and have been very friendly about it all. They only have full front and rear kits for my set up, hence Venhill. Here's a quote from one of the emails one of the techs there sent me today:

Order online for 2 day lead time:
http://www.venhill.co.uk/Hoses_&_Cables_-_Motorcycle/BMW/1150/R1150/R1150_GS_(ABS)_1998-2003_(servo)

I checked, and the non servo assisted rear hose is the same for ABS version.

The only difference on the servo assisted brakes to the non servo are the front hoses.

You might want to try Motobins, our BMW distributor to see if they have one in stock. Quote their part number: 22195S
http://www.motobins.co.uk/

They only take chrome fittings, but we can make with stainless fittings if you want.

Order place tonight, will be fitting and posting a few pics at the end of next weekend. Make sure you know the exact spec of your bike and ring around, plenty of helpful people around...

Could give demon tweeks a call near Wrexham. A guy called Neil riddle is a handy one to speak to there.

Thanks to everyone for the information, very helpful. However now i am a little unsure if mine is a servo assisted model or not. How can i tell, where is the servo located.

Thanks in advance.

Just been in touch with Motobins re: braided hoses for my 2001 R1150GS (ABS, non-servo), had email back to say they cannot supply for that bike

As above Venhills will make them to fit if you supply dimensions to them, they did this for my Guzzi LeMans V and 888 in black to match the existing and supplied Stainless Fittings as well.

That's nonsense cos they're the same ones I got from them a few months ago - not very impressive on their part. Had a quick look on their site and all the pipes are listed as in stock

Replace hard line?

Is there any real need, or benefit, to replace the hard line between the calipers?

PS Moto-bins also told me they didn't stock (front?) hoses for an 02 1150 ABS

02 1150GS ABS Evo (i.e. calipers with "BMW") non-servo:
"No Goodridge hoses available for that model" say Moto-bins and Motorworks. OEM hoses are flexible only say the dealer.

Maybe Demon Tweeks or Hel would make up a set. Could be a group purchase?
Only thing is .. I don't want the bike off the road while the old hoses are used as a pattern.
I haven't checked with Venhill yet.

Venhill can make up just about anything. Take measurements of the line and pictures / descriptions of the end fittings and give them a call.
