OK. I know i'm gonna change my brake lines on my '99 1100GS.

Thing is, which ones to go for. Steptoe had a few problems with the HEL ones, so which ones to go for, or are the problems small enough to overcome?

Where did ya get them from, checked NN's but no show. And what did ya give for 'em?

No problems with the actual lines, i have them fitted to my bike, and they really are the best quality available, including the fittings.

The problem is BMW and their habit of changing the angles and fittings in mid production, which meant i had to send the original lines back to HEL, and they'd copy them, and send me their lines .

No problem with 95% of bikes, but it was me who used to get moaned at. So i no longer supply them. But i'd buy them for my own use . :thumb

Thanks for that Neil.

Bought direct from HEL they are £125 for the front & rear, is that fair enough, or are there any better deals out there?

FWIW I'd just put the fronts on esp if your on an non ABS bike. Bit more travel and less bite at the rear does no harm in an emergency situation. Just an opinion though! :)

You can`t just buy an off the shelf kit for GS`s anymore...as Steptoe says, there`s so many variations.

When I fitted the 1150 front end to my 1100,I modified the brake line arrangement and measured it all up,from banjo bolt centre to banjo bolt centre,as well as specifying what type of fitting went into the ABS unit, and what angle of banjo I wanted.

I then contacted HEL, who made up a set in the colour I wanted and with my choice of banjo material for just under £90. :thumb

BF goodrich (sp?) also make up hoses IIRC.

You could try contacting your local hydraulic hose suppliers (Hose doctor/ Pirtek ect) as they may be able to help, or point you in the right direction.

I got a replacement braided front hose for my husky mx'er for about 15 quid.

Or save some buggering about and just get a GSA...

Bastard never told me ...

... about any problems, got my HEL ones ('97 1100 with ABS) from St Eptoe, they fitted perfectly first time and have been faultless :thumb

I have used HEL before.

After a couple of phone calls I sent them a piece of string, a drawing and some specifications.
The loops on the ends of the string went around the banjo unions, the drawing gave them more info and the spec told them that one banjo wanted to be a 45º and so on.
When it arrived it fitted perfectly first time.

You have to do this sort of thing with an unusual bike (my Hesketh) You should be able to buy ready made braided sets off the shelf.

Motorworks do ready made Goodridge lines here

Braided lines

I've just done this meself on my '99 non-ABS 1100.

I've got a mix of Motorworks (from master cylnder to caliper 1) = £20 ish
and Hel (from caliper 1 to caliper 2 via double length banjo) = £29.00

Like Tarka said, tell 'em what you want and they'll make it for you.
