I replaced all 10 bobbins and spring washers a few week ago with new ones, in an attempt to stop the disc "rattling". In fact, I even put new discs on. It reduced, but certainly didn't stop the movement.

Today, I found that 8 of the new spring washers have broken and disappeared! I have probably only done 100 miles!

What would be the cause of this?

I did find that my some of my caliper pistons were a bit stiff, now they're all ok.

The rattle is caused by wear on the disc mounting bosses on the wheel. You need to file the bosses flat, as described in this thread;

FANTASTIC!!!!! many thanks!!!

I have filed them down... I honestly thought they WERE locating lugs on the wheel.

All sideways movement now stopped....

FYI though, I have had to shim out the brake caliper with a small washer, to ensure that the brake disc does not rub on the caliper.
