right got a mate having trouble obtaining a set of front discs for his 09 GSA motorworks have stated they have no stock , from what i can see Neil only stocks up to 2008 so can any of you 1200 chappies point me in the direction of a stockist please :rob

I didn't realise there was a difference once they went to floating bobbins to prevent disk squeal ??

I fitted a Galfer wavy (rear) disk to my last 1200 which was better and cheaper than BMW, perhaps your mate could do worse than fit some of those?

its a mystery to me but apparently there's a difference :confused:

i don't suppose you have a link to a supplier do you ? :)
 
No mate, it was years ago but I think I got it in Vines.

As usual, Google could be the answer.
 
The discs changed to semi floating with the integral bobbins from 2008. You can use the earlier type with the right combination of bobbins, washers etc. There have been articles about this on here before.
 
I've got one hanging on the garage wall I bought from motor works a couple of years ago, but never used. It still has their id number written on it in blue pen. Only got the one though. If that's any good to you, let me know.
 
Try good old Steppers. He just supplied me front discs and pads in excellent time and a great price.
 
I did check out his site sarge nut as far as i could tell he only list up to 08 having said that the listsings from site to site are a tad confusing to say the least
 
Will pre 08 discs work on a post 08 wheel?

Expects a flood of "how dare you think such a thing" comments
 
Brake discs 10 GSA

Anyone got any advice for me regarding new front discs on my 2010 GSA.

Ordered a complete set of Brembo discs and pads from BikeTorque (UK distributor) as suggested by mechanic.

Put the bike into John Clark Motorrad to get them fitted, then got a call saying the front discs are the wrong ones and they are rubbing on the outer pads.

Contacted BikeTorque and they are adamant that the discs supplied when fitted with supplied bobbins are the correct ones.

Fact is it's only a flat disc with a couple of mm of bobbins either side so why can't they get the bloody things fitted?

I suspected that it is possibly to do with the axle hub, been over tightened and pulled the forks in but they say it's just been tightened to 50Nm so can't be wrong.

Any advice please as the bike is sitting in their workshop and they don't have a clue what could be wrong, just blaming it on wrong discs.

Been there, done that, they do not fit properly with BMW bobbins.
The Brembo bobbins I got from Carpi Moto withe discs were different to the BMW bobbins used in other earlier models. The BMW ones cause the disks to rub on the caliper. The Brembo ones have a thicker shoulder which pushes the disk that little bit further way from the wheel. BM did something funky in 2008 that moved the contre line of the caliper that little bit further out.

It's Brembo bobbins that came with the discs.

They've tried fitting the bobbins the other way round to see if that made a difference but they're still rubbing.

Yes, they machined 2mm off the calliper mounting points so it sits further out to match the new style of disc mounts, which funnily enough move the discs 2 mm further apart.
 
Sounds like spacer washers are needed under the disc bobbins. Another though are the bobbins thicker on one side?
 
Turns out that the discs are perfectly OK.

The problem is the pistons are sticking. :blast only two days for them to figure it out.
 
You saying they could not diagnose sticky brake pistons??
All you need to check is that the disc is central in the calliper, pads and pistons do the rest.
