brake failure!HELP!!!

I think it was the shock factor really, as I was trying the bike for the first time I had just got used to servo brakes being brilliant! The bike did stop, it just took a couple of seconds to find out that if I pulled REALLY hard that some braking was avalable, so that combined with less braking power meant I travelled 15-20 yds further than I was expecting.

Russ the bike had 10500 miles on it, as the shop said "used every day in all weathers" They did not seem surprized, thats a worry.BMW need to look at this I think,

Should I still buy the bike?thats whats going thro my mind today, as I say have left deposit despite this "experiance " cause it was faultless(dohh) other wise!

lost my brakes on several occasions. Usually it's a poor self check, but they come on properly after a few hundred yards, so no big. But, recently, as I approached lights at about 25mph, pulled lever-absolutely stately home. Switched off, restarted and all's been ok since, though I now don't trust them at all. If there was choice, I'd junk this servo garbage asap. I'm seriously looking into an alternative i.e. proper brakes from Brembo on suitable brackets.

Not that I think it's a particularly good plan, but if you did want to modify the braking system to that extent, I can't see the point in changing the calipers. Just bypass all the fancy gubbins and connect the master cylinder to the caliper in the traditional way, perhaps? By the way, the brakes ARE Brembos

Fanum - good point about the fault code memory - I'll mention it when the bike goes for service.

hi Ian,

exactly what happened to me.

I was doing 40 mph on the M60 (road works) when the speedo needle went to zero and tha red triangle started to flash.

... (snip) ...

Anyway the Germans decided it was a fault with the brake pump, so they changed it and all's been fine since.

If it was the brake pump, how come the speedo stopped working?

Hi Colin,

they say that the speedo sensor's linked to the servo pump so when one bit goes it all goes!
