Greetings,

A couple of questions about the brakes on my 05 1200 gs:

1. What Torx bit size are the rear disc bolts? T45/T50/T55? Also how long does the Torx bit need to be? I take it there is a reason nippy normans and motobins sell this set:

2. When braking from high speed (50mph +) I am getting shaking through the handlebars and what seems like the front end. It gets worse the harder I brake from speed. No shaking is present at low speeds, regardless of how heavy I brake. Discs are worn, but no visible warp-age from spinning the front wheel. I have cleaned up the calipers and discs (wet n dry on discs), but to no effect. I intend to replace the rear disc as it is shagged (badly grooved), but I am hesitant to fork out the £200+ for the fronts as well if they don't need it. Would it be worth taking the front discs off and cleaning bobbins/washers ect? Other than that any ideas?

Cheers,

See steptoe for some front discs, or even James sherlock at the top of the page.

The torx bit size for the disc bolts is a T45, you will find that nearly all the bolts on the bike are torx bolts so yes there is a reason for that set.

Are the head bearings tight/worn, that would give you a shake too, but i would guess if the discs are worn you might have a slight warp in them.
