Hi all

Front braking now seems to give off a knocking type noise that slows up with braking. Pads look fine - from what I can tell with ABS off it doesnt made the same noise. No problem with the rear brake.

1150gs adv 2002

Any ideas / pointers as its a sod of a problem.

Cheers,
Brian

Is it a noise that happens when you first pull away that sounds like a metallic kerklunk? If so then it is the abs self check. It's normal :thumb

no

no - its not like that at all, this noise happens when I brake - its a soft knocking noise sounds like it could be something to do with the pads and disc.

As the bike slows whilst braking the knocking occurs less ie: its linked with the wheel speed.

:D :D Read his post again,slowly and c..a..r..e..f..u..l..l..y :D :D

It may wear of the disc mounting 'pillars' on the hub.....it`s been on here a few times.

Do a Forum Search.

Did a forum search....

But not sure what to look for Tarka, sorry I know I'm being stooopid here, but not sure....soz, its been a hell of a day to day...need hand held a bit.

Grip hold of the discs, and move them back and forth. You may get movement in one, or both discs. Thats the noise that Tarka mentions.
Lots of bikes do it.

Do a search for the cure.

I had this noise on my little Honda, caliper wasn't torqued correctly. Don't ask

cheers guys.....

both front discs have play in them, quite a shocking amount as well. Will search for answer here, now that I know the problem....them for some chocolate and strawberries to celebrate.

Nice one Neil / Tarka, this board is blummin invaluable. :beerjug:

You could always sell it on E-Bay and be creative with your item description and not mention the faults, eh Brian :nono

Try looking at the pads.... could they be moving as you apply the brakes ... and knocking against the calipers. Only a suggestion but have seen this on my 1100gs.

Thanks, will check that also - SDM - sorry you feel you have been shortchanged - I really am. I felt that the bike was a good deal!

I've bought and sold many things on Ebay - this is the first problem I've had & I'm not happy about hearing it here :(

Again, I'm sorry if you feel that you have had a bad deal.
