1100 GS. Suspect the front brakes are the problem (used to be able to switch light off by pushing brake lever forward, new pads cured the problem for some time) Now its on permenanly! Is this a switch activated by the lever or an hydraulic pressure one? Or am i missing something else all together. :nenau

Microswitch mounted on brake lever pivot. Held off by brake lever. If you are pushing the lever forward it might indicate some corrosion inside the master cylinder. Can happen on early bikes through water ingress in brake fluid.

I have had the same on mine recently, strip off the handguard and you will find a small microswitch under the mastercylinder, there are two small screws holding it in place. Give it a couple of squirts with WD40 and that should fix it.

Whilst you have it apart check for leaks from the seals by gently easing off the rubber boot that covers the push rod.

As per previous posts probably the micro switch, I have used WD40 to loosen switch if it is sticking, if this does not do the job I have carefully bent the small metal tab outwards to ensure it makes contact with the switch when you pull the lever. If you have hand guards make sure they are not catching the lever and preventing it from releasing properly, mine have moved on a coupe of occasions and I have found that re-adjusting the guards has solved the problem.

Thanks guys, have just removed guard and cleaned contacts up, light goes off again :)

BUT....there is bugger all brake fluid in the reservoir so looks like an emergancy fluid change tonight (have been "getting around to it for months now) and a good inspection of the whole area is due.

Thanks for the speedy replys :beerjug:

Thanks for the offer I A Poo. :) I've got this one sorted now but if i ever need any workshop company i'll give you a shout, not too far away in Cannock :thumb

As for the fluid....thought it was engine oil when i took the reservoir cap off, christ knows when it was last changed  Flushed front and rear brakes with new fluid and everything is now working tip top. :clap
