my brake light is stuck on. I have disconnected the front brake light switch and the rear and it is still on, I changed the relay but made no difference. replaced bulb. anyone else ever had this problem. any ideas, supposed to be going to Austria on it on Tuesday.
It is a BMW. R850R. 2003.

I presume it goes out when the ignition is off?

Start at the rear end....remove the bulb and holder, clean all the terminals and make sure nothing is bridging between the rear running light wire and the brake light wire, or across the gap between the terminals in the holder itself.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to replace the bulb as well, in case there's an internal fault in it. (unlikely but odd things happen)

This is assuming that your 850R is set up the same way as a GS, with a standard twin filament brake/running light bulb.

Squirt some silicon spray into the plunger on the switch it's probably stuck.

thanks for the info. I have just worked out the problem. it was the footbrake switch.
If one of the brake light switches fail the light goes on. I would have expected it not to work. so I have done a temporary repair so I can ride the bike. I looped the brake light switch wires together allowing the front brake light switch to work only.
I did remove it and spray it with WD40, but it didn't work. so I will purchase a new one.
It's a BMW. R850R. the servo failed about 2 years ago so I removed ABS/Servo following the instructions I found on this site by Dave H I think. it has been excellent until now. the brakes are far better without that damn abs system.

Thanks a lot Colin.
