2 or 3 times now when someone has been behind me they have commented on my brake light is staying on.. Yesterday, even whilst I was accelerating the guy behind told me it was staying on...
Any ideas as to what the prob could be?
TIA...

its the brake light switch of course.... try the microswitch on the bar lever - as u move the lever u should here it click - if not then its sticking on

Its crud up round yer parts!!

The rear of the light assembly on a 1200 is open!!:blast As a result it gets full of road grime (salt) and dampness! it could be the crud is shorting the tail light feed onto the brake light! thus the brake light appears to be stuck on!!:blast:blast

I had a similar problem and comments. Took it apart and cleaned it all up, Tadaaa no more problem.:D:rob

How big are your feet?

Could your foot be touching the lever without you realising - It has been known...

:augie

Draggin' the weed? Or, more likely, the pedal?

Edit: The north got in ahead.

Check ze bulb :ronno

Make sure the tail light filament hasn't blown :comfort

It's a safety thingy back up on an 1150 :thumb2

Ze warnin' lighten bulb vill lighten on ze instrument binacle o'der 1200, mit zer arrow backvards, bulben kapputen massagenmaken....

....unless of course der sunnen is shinning and ze dunkopf rider nicht see zer dials....

My feet are normal...below is a pic of the boots I ride in, so it can't be that....

Definitely not draggin on the weed, well not when I am riding....

I cleaned the area with WD40, it was a bit messy, but not too bad...hopefully, it will be ok now...

I wondered if the foot brake 'bolt thingy' that activates the brake switch needs adjusting??

Are you 100% your 'friends' - who saw your brake light on - aren't pulling your plonker? Getting you running around looking for a problem that does not exist. :augie

I am one of the friends who told Jim of this condition and it is certainly not a wind-up.

Funny thing is that my bike has now come out in sympathy and is doing the same thing.

Could it be that the switch could be adjusted to make it a little less sensitive?

Yep, Johhnie Boy has it right all right, I wondered what was causing this some time ago, and started by inspecting the "bulb" (its not a "bulb" its a lamp, however....) and after cleaning all contact areas including the lamp everything worked just fine.
So, no matter how tall you are jimbogs, its a short!

Sorry to hear your bike has caught the disease WWW...

Bem,
I cleaned the bulb and the contacts.....but how do I get the unit off to clean round the back?
TIA...
