2001 R1150GS - my brake light stays on because front brake switch is not turning off. If I push the front brake lever slightly forward after braking the light goes off. Have tried taking front brake lever off and lubricating but made no difference. Am concluding front brake switch needs replacing but unclear whether there is any adjustment which I can try making to it first?

I have just consulted the manual there is no adjustment mentioned, by your own description the lever is not returning to it's rest position i would suggest you look at that before replacing the switch

As already said, check lever isn't fouling hand guard. Also worth removing pivot pin and lever and properly cleaning/lubing all parts - especially the pivot pin and bush in lever

Thanks for replies, have checked not fouling guard in anyway (tested with guard removed) and already removed brake lever and cleaned and lubricated the leve pivot and bush. Lever seems to work fine, returns slightly easier than before I cleaned it so guessing need to replace switch, just that at £36.26 from motor works thought would check other possibilities first!

Let's Start Again!

Ok, so you've cleaned & lubed the lever and pivot, so I assume when the lever was out you would have tested and exercised the micro-switch with your finger? - if it was switching "crisply" using a finger or similar in unison with the brake light then it's unlikely it's the switch.
Are you sure your master cylinder piston and/or brake fluid is in good condition? It's the master cylinder piston return spring which pushes the lever out - maybe it's the piston sticking due to build-up of sh-te or old brake fluid:eek:.

Many thanks for the advice - took switch apart (very fiddly!), did seem to be sticking and after cleaning it up seems to be working properly now, deep joy :beerjug:

I had the exact issue, seems the lever operating the micro switch had got a bit bent, thereby keeping the
switch enabled. Straightened the lever, and viola, no more issues.
