I want to replace the brake lines on my 1150GS with ABS, just want to know how straight froward bleeding the system afterwards is? I read This link and I've read somewhere about replacing the bleed nipples as they break or something? Any hints/tips welcome
The rear brake bleeder is going to break off unless it has been replaced with a stainless nipple and holder. Order both from Motorworks before you start work on the bike.
Did mine this time last year, replaced with Hel lines-perfect fit. The whole operation took under two hours, but then I did spend 30 years working on Citroen cars so by comparison the plumbing on the GS is simple. I sprayed the calliper bleed nipples a few days in advance of the work and had no problems. Bleeding was easy the servos do most of the work. Bit like a self levelling Citroen where you can only properly bleed the brakes using the pressure made by the hydraulic pump. I just did a search on here as I can't lay my hands on the download of bleeding sequence I used-this might help http://advwisdom.hogranch.com/Wisdom/service_abs3.pdf You might find more info if you search yourself.
As has been mentioned the fluid can come out quickly so be ready for that and don't let the servo reservoirs run out. Use new brake fluid from a sealed container to avoid fluid that has already absorbed moisture.
Good luck
Just re read your post you did not say it was servo ABS, if it's not please disregard the above ramblings!
No servo! Your 'ramblings' did remind me of when I owned a Leyland Terrier many years ago - the hydraulic brakes on that were pressurised by a pump and had two pressurised reservoirs... bit like air brakes with fluid
Anyway I'll get some stainless bits to replace those that break just in case. Hopefully it will then be straight forward - ha ha!
