Yes, 320mm is the Evo brakes. (Yes BMW simply called big discs* EVO)

Wrong. There are two different 305mm GS discs. One used the BMW badged calipers, the other used the tokico calipers. The outside diameter are the same for both discs, but the inside diameters are different. And also the reason why they use different brake pads, one has less surface area than the other.

And why you can't swop the BMW Tokico calipers on a rockster with the BMW badged calipers.
The bmw badged calipers are for the "deeper" discs with the more surface area, the Tokico calipers are for the "skinny" discs with less surface area.

Is this on the 305mm front discs?
My understanding is that the Rockster always had the 320mm discs (which I understood to be the EVO "upgrade") on the cast wheels.

Same story with the calipers: part numbers 34117722525 & 34117722526. Annoyingly the Part pages don't show decent photos, nor tell you the item manufacturer, but you can see that the same calipers were used all over the range.

I know the GS had the older Brembo front calipers when it came out (the 'blockier' ones with a cast Brembo 'B' logo, (as opposed to the full 'Brembo' name), that are different to the calipers in my photo above ), which I think were on 305mm discs? I assume the GS was upgraded to the 320mm discs at some point? Presumably with the larger calipers?

IIRC the Brembo callipers on my Rocksters came from other bikes that had the 320mm discs - the first set were (I believe) from an RS, but Motorworks didn't tell me what the 2nd pair came from. They fit fine and work well with the OE BMW discs. As far as I can tell, the swept area is fully compatible.

Obviously it IS worth making the distinction between the GS and the Rockster, the GS had a far longer production run, and there are more permutations of it's overall configuration.

Looking at the GSA fiche (https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sh..._Adv_01_0441,0492_&diagId=34_1273#34117722526) there's two different discs (3 actually) - and irritatingly, only 1 of them shows the dimensions.
Similarly, there's 2 sets of calipers listed. I don't know what the "X645A" reference is refering to, (as it seems to be a separate reference to the 'integral ABS' option).

Brembo calipers. Ferodo 2050 pads. You can’t confuse your calipers with the Two later Bmw badged tokico Calipers. Your discs are the same as those used on the bmw badged calipers.

My point is you can’t fit the BMW badged calipers (on the right in the picture)in place of the tokico Calipers (on the left in the picture - the tokico caliper works with the “narrower” disc, the bmw badged caliper works with the deeper disc - my own 1150 has bmw badged calipers so I wouldn’t put much faith in what the Part book say’s, especially since I’ve been given the wrong disc by bmw dealers many times over the years, even when I’ve asked them to double check before ordering

Here, I’ve found some old discs. The disc used with the tokico caliper is 32mm across. The BMW badged caliper is 39mm across. And the pads used are different in each caliper, the Tokico uses a Ferodo 2124, which is long and shallow. The bmw badged caliper uses a 2125, which is shorter but deeper........ to add to the confusion, you can use the deeper 39mm disc with the tokico caliper as the 2124 pad contacts all the disc. But you can’t use narrower 32mm disc with the bmw badged caliper as the pads are bigger than the disc, the bottom of the pads won’t be in contact with disc so as it wears you’ll have a section of unworn brake pad catching the mounting lugs of the disc.

Interesting stuff.

I hadn't known before about the different discs. Can I assume they are a direct swap? (ie, they both have the same mounting point arrangement to the wheel?) If so, then I'll just need to swap discs if I have any issues.

I'll look up at some point how many miles I did on my old Rockster with the Brembo calipers on. I'm pretty sure it was a significant amount, and I can't remember ever having any issues.
