Brake pad replacement question

Do I need to use copper grease, or something like red rubber grease for the back of the pads, is copper OK for the piston seals? And, do I need to loosen or remove the brake fluid reservoir cap?

I didn't do either - have no squealing or leakage of brake fluid.

Not a wind up? Should be plenty of brake threads on here.....
In brief: remove pads, remove calipers from forks, wash properly with brake cleaner, rinse with water, dry, smallest of dabs of copper grease on contact points (top & bottom of pads) including a whisper on the retaining pin.
If you are not sure of the use of red rubber then best left alone.

Red rubber grease is for lubing the brake piston seals on rebuilding after a strip down, it is compatable with brake fluid. I only tend to put copper grease on the securing pins. Everything else gets a good clean and de-crud.

I bought a caliper off ebay for a Triumph Tiger 955 I had. The seller had thoughtfully cleaned it up nicely and lubricated the pistons with copious quantities of copper grease. I never fitted the caliper. It's still in my parts bin.

Thanks all. I've not done brake pads for 20 years, back in the good old days of whacking the pin out with a small screwdriver and hammer, no copper grease and cleaning consisted of a bucket of hot and soapy

Just in case of any misunderstanding - lubing caliper pistons with copper grease is a complete no-no. I've always used brake fluid - and that's all - to lubricate pistons before refitting to a caliper.
