Hi

I am (or thought I was) a reasonably competent spanner wielder, but have always shied away from brakes......until now! I have just installed a set of Hel lines using the OEM configuration (non ABS) and a pair of speed bleeder bleed nipples.

My problem is that I have filled the master cylinder reservoir with fluid in order to start bleeding, but there is no pressure on the lever at all and I can't get any fluid through the lines.

Any help gratefully received.

Problem Solved

Hi Roddy

Thanks for that I had opened one of them but they both needed to be open, also was surprised that it needed loads of lever pulls to get the fluid through. I was expecting about half a dozen and it probably took closer to fifty.

I now have fully working brakes which at least look better than they did and should last another ten years or so.

Not that impressed with HEL, I know all the comments about the variety of line configurations that BmW use, but the person I spoke got quite stroppy with me, as if it was my fault ( I can assure you I have never worked for BmW R&D). Then after they had had my brake lines as a pattern they returned them with missing banjo bolts. Finally noticed that they hadn't sent me any crush washers either so not really a kit was it?

Having said all that, the lines look good quality and the turnaround was acceptable.

I suppose I was a bit hacked off as I had ordered the three line front brake kit for the R1100 GS, for the appropriate year as per their website and the package that arrived (despite having the correct product code on it) was a two line brake kit with double banjo bolt fittings. I did suggets that perhaps if they had sent me the goods as described it would have been correct for the bike, which was met with the "i've been doing brake lines for 13 years" type of response.

If only everybody had the same level of customer service that that Neil Harriosn bloke has :D. The pads arrived quickly and in the end two weeks ahead of the lines!

Have you ever fancied a holiday in sunny Guernsey? Board and lodgings provided for a couple of .......well how long would it take you for a complete strip down and rebuild???
