Just got a letter from Bahnstormer informing me that my recently purchased 2008 model 1200GSA needs a new brake hose as it could crack over time due to vibration.

Anyone else had a similar letter?:nenau

This may be an old recall notice.

I remember my 2008 GSA having similar work done about a year ago as part of a precautionary component swap - perhaps your bike missed the first sweep of recall letters and this notice is just playing catch up?

Yes, from the same place today...

No, it specifically states that even if it has had the recall done on the brakes in the past 2 years it needs this one doing....

I got it too, also 08 Adv. Seems the brake house could start leaking at the coupling. Dealer said he hasn't seen any problems yet though.
This is the first recall for my bike btw. The fpc which was replaced on the -07 models is not replaced on the 08 for some strange reason (mine still has the silver one). BMW moves in mysterious ways.

I had the brake line recall done about a year ago now - again on an 08 GSA so I will keep an eye on the post for Bahnstormers notice letter.

Brake recall

This is a new recall even if you had it done before another mod to the pipe.

I just had a text this morning about this, and asked dealer to email me the recall notice. Have attached as per this post, but had to break it into smaller PDF files, numbered A thru D.

Looking at the pix in the recall, it seems that the brake pipe ends have been reinforced; guess these were being stress fractured with vibration. Seems it affects the front brake circuit only.

I am not going to rush to get this recall done on my 09 GSA as its booked in for its 18,000 mile service in July. Will keep an eye on the fluid levels.

I seem to recall some chap in Germany having issues with brake failure and killing himself. If my memory is correct, at a guess this recall is to do with that.

Reading the attached docs indicates that more models/year are affected. Does this also affect the std. GS:confused:

Banner on Sky News right now: "BMW to recall 122,000 motorbikes due to brake problems".

Is this the same problem as above or a whopping great new one.

link to sky news article?

It's not an article - it's a banner scrolling along the bottom of the screen on TV as I write.

Yup, 122,000 bikes! :eek
It's now on the BBC news as well. I've just done a search for "BMW" on the BBC news website but nothing showing yet. I assume it will be covered in more detail in the tonights news. Edit: BBC news article HERE.

BMW recalls 122,000 K1200GT motorbikes
BMW is the world's leading manufacturer of luxury vehicles BMW is recalling 122,000 of its K1200GT motorbikes because of potential brake problems. A spokesman stressed that no accidents had been reported and only a tiny number of complaints had been received. The bikes were manufactured between August 2006 and May 2009 - some have already had their brakes checked and corrected.
The number recalled accounts for around a third of all BMW bikes produced during that time, the company said.

How many 1200GSs did they sell in 2008? The banner definately states "122,000 motorcycles". :eek

Big thanks to Windy Chuffer for the pdfs.

:bow

Just called a dealer and booked in my bike for the work.

122,000 BMW MOTORBIKES RECALLED IN BRAKE SCARE
By Peter Woodman, Press Association Transport Correspondent
Thousands of BMW motorcycles, including some owned by British bikers, are being recalled because of a possible brake problem, it was revealed today.
The recall, believed to involve around 122,000 machines worldwide, covers various versions of six models.
These include the R 1200 GS Adventure model, versions of which were ridden by Charley Boorman and Ewan McGregor in their 2007 Long Way Down biking adventure.
Letters received by British owners of the bikes said vibrations could cause the front brake lines to develop leaks which could allow brake fluid to escape which could lead to a failure of the front brakes.
The other models involved are the R 1200 GS, the R 1200 R, the R 1200 RT, the R 1200 ST and the K 1200 GT.
