Braking judder

Experiencing front end 'judder' under heavy braking that is only apparent when braking from over 40mph ! Seems progressively worse the faster i go.My dealer says the discs measure up well within BM tolerances and dissappointingly say they can't figure it out ! Any ideas would be appreciated !

I had bad judder from my DR350's front brake.

I replaced the pads & at the same time replaced the worn wheel bearings. One of these actions cured the judder completely.

Thanks ! Dealer said all the bearings were ok and that makes sense as i only experience under heavy breaking at speed ! Seems like it must be a disc/pads issue to me but the dealer won't commit as discs are within BM's guidelines !

Had a similar problem on mine when it was about a year old - the discs were in spec. but new ones fitted under warranty and the problem was solved.

I'm now on yet another set (front and rear) as the pulsing came back, this time it'e not eliminated it completly and I'm not sure where to go with it The only thing I can think of, is that it may be a pad issue - this is the only thing I have changed, having fitted cheaper organic pads so the next thing to try is a new set of full fat sintered pads.

I remember reading a couple of threads on here with people with this same problem.....and also the dealers inability to find anything, or do anything about it

...I seem to recall changing the pads eventually cured the problem for all parties.

You don't mention how old the bike is or the millage? What some times happens is the disc's actually sit on differant types of bobbins and washers which can over time brake up. Try having a look to see if anything looks a bit worn/missing and if so replace all of the bobbins and washers. Depending on model and year their are various types.

You could be right; the curious thing about my problem is that it's most noticeable at slow speeds when breaking lightly. If I do some high speed/heavy braking stuff it seems to clear the problem for a while before it returns..........very strange indeed

Thats the thing i don't understand cos theres no hint of this judder under 40mph ! My bikes covered 17,000 miles but i've only done 5,000 since buying from the dealer 15 months ago ! It's a 2006 model !

have something similiar on mine, but it gets alot better the more I carry, fully loaded panniers and it's hardly noticeable, pillion and again it gets better. Can only assume it's suspension as I have stiffened up the front end so might have gone too far

Disc problem

Had exact same thing with my 06 GS nothing at low speeds only 40mph and over
dealer replaced discs problem solved

some dealers say 4 mm run out is acceptable,
dont accept that as m o t standards for you to pass are less than that

My dealer in S.Yorks was saying that if discs are within BM tolerances it couldn't be that ! Take it this is therefore a load of s###e ! As said before as the bikes not under warranty i am not wanting to pay for new discs to find nothings changed !

Not on mine it isn't as I've recently fitted front and rear Wilbers which has made no difference to the problem

Very swish ! Think i might take my bike to another dealer for a second opinion but it looks like pads and discs !

My experiences coincide exactly with Outtomunch...............I had the same problem as yourself. Took it to dealers (in warranty) and they said the discs were within BMW spec........When I asked them to test ride it however they agreed there was a problem and replaced discs and pads all round under warranty.

Problem solved ! After seeking advice from BMW my rear disc was replaced , as they stated there had been some manufacturing 'issues' with some discs . As there was no improvement the front discs were replaced and this cured the problem completely ! This left me with a potential £800 bill for a bike i had owned for only 14 months . Despite the fact that the bike was out of warranty BMW have agreed to pay for the parts as a goodwill gesture saving me nearly £600 ! Thats customer service that i don't imagine you'd see from most other manufacturers !
