Braking system playing up

Well ferk me if its not doing it again!!! :spitfire

Over the last couple of days, the same problem has reared its ugly head. However I am closer to finding out what is going on. It only seems to do it when the rear brake pedal is used, for example, when dragging the rear brake when making a slow sharp turn, or slow speed manoeuvering.
The servo wont switch off when the pedal is released, and the system reverts to residual braking at the rear. Which is nice.

As I have said, it only does it intermittently, but its a bit of a mystery. Hopefully, its only a gremlin, and it may well go away of its own accord in due course, so i am not too bothered at this point.
In any case, if it does escalate and turn out to be something expensive, theres not a lot i can do about it really, except drive it off the nearest cliff/torch it/get it stolen and driven of the nearsest cliff/torched :D

Any road up, I thought I'd post, as it may help anyone else with a similar problem.

Have you checked the rear micro switch. This one is exposed to the elements. Same principle as the front.

If that fails and you end up having to pay nearly a grand for a new control unit then consider ripping the lot out and plumbing in straight through brake lines and frigging the wiring to get normal non technical brakes.

I did it and it certainly gives me piece of mind.

Sorry for the delay mate.

The rear micro switch operates in the same manner as the front. It is located down by your rear brake pedal. If you lay on your back and look behind the pedal assembly at the point where it fixs to the bike you will see it tucked down there. As with the front you should hear it click when you operate the pedal. The contacts should be normally closed with no brake applied. The switch contacts open when you operate the lever Because it is at ground level and not in a casing they do stick or get clogged with road crap.

Hope that helps

Delpel, thanks for the help. I did actually find it today, and gave it a good going over with WD 40. I had to ride it round town shortly after, and it was still doing it. As far as I can tell, it only does it when the rear brake is applied on its own, and does NOT do it when the front brake lever is used. WHen I got it home, I left it running, and the servo was running constantly, only resetting when the ignition was turned off. I have since done 50 or so miles this evening, and it has not done it alt all, although that is not unusual. The switch seesm to be working correctly, so I am not sure what the problem is now. I will have to see how it goes now its been sprayed, in the longer term.
If that doesn't cure it, its gonna have to go to the dealer.
I just pray that its not more serious, such as servo problems. Without wishing to pre-empt matters, if thats the case, its fecking going.

Cheers

At the risk of being boring, I still have this problem from time to time. It has done it couple of times over the last two days, but still only seems to do it when the rear brake pedal is used, which kind of suggests the switch is at fault.

However, it occurred to me that the problem only started a couple of months ago, after I had removed the rear wheel to clean it. When replacing it, I had a right old struggle to get it into position again, only because it is heavy and I needed to line it up properly.

Is it possible that in doing so, I have knocked the ABS sensor out of kilter, I think to myself? It seems coincidental that prior to this work, things were perfectly in order, and the next time a ride the bike, things start to play up. Could this cause such problems, or is it smoke and mirrors?

Has anybody else had anything similar happen, perchance?

I will be checkin the ABS air gap next week.
