Brand New Product... Battery/Alternator Monitor.

news

2nd batch in to me today and out to you guys in the next post today, so you should have on your doormat tomorrow morning.

4 units left of current batch.

Anybody fitted theirs yet?, I'm real keen to know what you think of the product.
ps although ive tried my best to waterproof these things, but dont fit them in any direct path of water, its weatherproofing is good, but its not made for a submarine.
Obviously any extra silicone you put on it, cant do it any harm.
all the best Paul

HI Bumpy

Yes no problem, the unit will work on the honda, i know the regs on these are about as reliable as a two legged stool, along with the vtrs too.
I cant read the link you posted, you may need to be a member.
If you want one on Sale or return, just shout, ive found a demo one you can play with, ive 3 left in stock at the moment, more stock due from the next week.atb Paul

Anyone fitted theirs yet

More stock in now.
Only 4 quid dearer than the competition.
but for that you get....

*Surface mounted components, not old hat pin thru stuff.
*latest technology, this is so small its unreal.
*Sealed surface mounted printed circuit board .
*99% weatherproof, unlike the car derived units which have no protection at all, but it wil fail if submersed, what wont?
*12 months warranty.
*Bike derived software, not car software
*Recorded delivery included
*Remote mounted 3 colour 5mm led for many mounting options, and if need be .only a 5mm dia hole in the clocks of the bike.if you want to you can just wedge the led in somewhere for a no holes install.
*A really small pcb, 10x15mm
*wires in to the sidelamp circuit, easy install.
*HID compatible
If i can get enough orders i can buy in bulk and get the price down.
Website up soon.
Regards Paul

This will probably sound like a daft question, but have you had anyone who's colour blind try one of these. Being one of the, apparently 1/3 of all men, who's a bit red/green colour blind, I have a job distinguishing when two-colour led's switch from red to green.

Sounds like a great idea, particularly as I have fog/running lights and heated gear that is used daily during the winter. I was thinking of looking for a voltage meter to keep an eye on the system and this seems ideal, but I'm concerned I won't actually be able to see the difference in the colours.

Cheers,

J.

I'll be ordering one too, and If you don't make one that fits in an accessory plug, I'll make one myself - this is a great way of checking out the electrics on vehicles without having to dig out the meter.

How about i build you a special one

HI Ya,J no problem sir, i'll make you a custom one, with a single colour, normal charge will be solid colour then off, over charge can be a mega slow flash, under charge can be a fast flash, and deep trouble can be a mega fast flash. easy peasy.
No extra charge(no pun intended!),will take 3-4 days from the workshop, tell me what kit you have on the bike, and i'll adjust the software for you.
This is the bonus with modern technology, its programable, the old hat crap isnt.
Just let me know what colour you see best, atb Paul

Anyone else want a din one

Thats 2 people for a din type, its being worked on dear womble ,prototype is in the making.
I think this unit will have a 8mm led, to fill the hole where the cable in the din plug would normally be.

That would be fantastic, many thanks indeed. I would think either amber or red would likely be the brightest. I can see any colour, it's just distinguishing between them as different that's the problem.

On the bike I have HID headlights, ff50 spots, micro DE fogs (both about to be converted to HIDs), garmin, intercom/radio, and heated jacket.

Will paypal you the money later today.

Cheers,

J.

And received young J

paid by paypal.
Aha ,youve christened the email address.
I'll get the new orders for the standard units in the post on weds (tommorow), and re the special unit i'll organise it tonight, , should be here in 3-4 days, then straight out to you Young J.

I'm still itching to hear what you think of it,most people are saying how dinky it is, it's amazingly small.
you open the packet and think is this it?but its new tech, and minaturized.
I,m personally pleased the way it works, the quality of it, and its reliabilty.
Bloody thing has cost me £80 odd quid, it found the battery on my bike was fooked.:blast atb Paul

update for din type units

Put me down for a din one when ready please.....:thumb
It would appear the pcb is the wrong shape for the din plug,so a custom pcb is being made for the din plug, how cool's that.
And it will come with a 3 colour 10mm led hopefully, because you wont be able to see it head on.youlll be seeing it side on, so it will have to bright.
This is due to the siting of the original socket.
But progress is being made.:bounce1

Well mine's now been fitted for a couple of days, and does what it's supposed to do. Pretty pleased with it. :)

The only criticism, and it's not one of any importance, is that the led red and amber colours appear as different shades of red - but it doesn't matter, cos you know what it's telling you!

A worthwhile investment.

Thankyou for the reply

I'll look into the led colours and see if can be improved, thanks for the comments, glad youre pleased, cheers Paul.

HI Zundapp

I read the kind comments you posted on the varadero forum, and thankyou greatly.
The second poster did make me laugh though, he says he bought an old smiths voltmeter from ebay for a fiver, and this does the same job.:blast
It amazes me,how people like to bodge junk on their bikes, when for a tenner more they could get a proper bit of kit, which looks swish, is tidy, accurate, and is reliable.
some people see the light, some people push their bikes home. boom tish!!!
Many thanks again T, top man.

Another innovation

We've now successfully made a single colour monitor, by programming the chip to flash codes in red, although it still boots up in 3 colour, its purpose was for a chap who wanted single colour operation, its done its made, it even flashes SOS when in overcharge mode.
Its especially good for you chaps who might be slightly colour blind.
Same price as the regular unit.atb Paul

Hi Paul,

monitor arrived in the post today and, yes, it is indeed very tinyand looks extremely neat. I look forward to getting it fitted and seeing how it works.

The only thing I think that could be added or changed is the fuse issue. Due to my shifts I've not been able to get to a shop in about the past month, which means anything I order I have to do online (i'm out of the house for work 14-15 hours a day, 6 days a week and on a film set so can't nip out to buy anything). You say that it ought to have a 100ma fuse in the +ve feed but now I have to wait another week or so before I can source one of them.

Do you think it would be a good idea to have a small stock of them and offer them as an extra purchase when people order the monitors? It's a bit like the toys at christmas thing where you find batteries aren't included.

I have a spare inline mini blade fuse holder but can't find a suitably rated fuse for it, are these low ratings only available in tubular glass fuses?

I'll report back on the monitor once it's fitted but it won't be fore another week or so now. Also, can these be wired off a common fuse block such as a centech, would save cutting into wires for me as I have the fuse block already fitted for my accessories.

Cheers,

Justin.

centech

HI Justin, im amazed the postie got through.
re the centech yes no problem, you can wire it in anywhere you want, just make sure the supply switches off when the bike does, otherwise youll have a flat battery to come back to.
re the fuse, its a funny old game, some people like this fuse holder, some like that fuseholder, and it goes on.
The reason for the fuse is to make sure the wiring leading to the device is protected, once inside the unit, it has an internal fuse to protect the circuits inside.
The reason for the 100ma is to make double sure, ie belt and braces, incase the internal fuse doesnt work for whatever reason , the external one will.
I'll look into a fuse and holder to chuck in with future kits.
When ive found a suitable bike type unit, i'll post it up, and buy it in bulk for cheaper prices.
If i can get more buyers for the monitor, i'll order a 100 at a time which will bring the costs down.
Let me know how you get on.regards Paul
