Frigging breakdown cover for my old 2002 1150 GS costs more than the insurance! :blast
£97 for breakdown, £67 for insurance.
Wankers. :D

£18 a month gets you cover via Nationwide Flexplus account. Plus other "freebies" too. That was actually covered by their Fairshares bonus this year. (And last.)
+1 - European breakdown cover, worldwide family travel insurance, gadget insurance, fee free transactions when travelling abroad plus as Pete mentions they have a fair share scheme each year where they credit you cash which nearly always covers the base fee.

Was with Auto aid, they wanted £88.04 for this year.
New RAC cover policy started £80.35 reduced down by 20%.......no add on's, UK cover only.

Would have been cheaper if I went for monthly, as only use bike for 6 months out of the year.
Unlikely to breakdown sitting idle in garage. :D

£100 does not cover the 18x12 fee ...

Just make sure you’ve got cover for repatriating the bike and gear if you fall ill.

I need to return to France to collect my bike after a retina detached a month ago.

Nationwide have been brilliant and already settled my health and related costs claim but their breakdown cover doesn’t cover bringing the bike home.

They covered hotel accommodation, taxis, ferry and all health related costs but not food and drink while my return home was delayed.

Can’t fault their cover apart from the bike repatriation.

it's a big omission in the Nwide policy. It's also absent in the cover provided with my Moto Guzzi's warranty.

There's a lot of confusion on this topic in a current thread in a Facebook touring group. People do not seem to read let alone understand what insurance cover they have, making assumptions that a travel policy covers this situation.

Companies that include what they refer to "relief driver" cover are LV Britannia (Allianz) and Green Flag. They will provide a driver to get the vehicle and any passengers home, if the only legal driver/rider is unfit to drive through illness or injury. The alternative is to transport the vehicle separately to any passengers e.g. if the driver is poorly and needs a medivac home via the medical cover in the travel policy.
There is the usual caveat that they will write off the vehicle if it is worth less than the recovery cost, effectively buy it off you and send you home via Easyjet.
