I pick my 04 GS 12 up from Rainbow, ride it home, wait for warmer weather to actually be on a weekend. Bingo, yesterday was lovely.
Out on the bike, went up to N York Moors. Just overtaking a car when I heard/felt a splutter on the bike. I backed off, and we went on as normal. For 400 yards. Then I ran out of fuel, or so it felt.
I only filled up 10 miles back...
I rang Rainbow, who said to ring the BMW service rescue types. Chap turns up in under an hour and locates the problem. The seal on the fuel pump CanBus thing was letting water in and f***ed it.
Amazing that he was carrying a spare don't you think? I suspect a long list of replies saying "it happened to me" are about to appear.
The seal (after the recall) should be green not black. Mine WAS green and STILL failed.
How can BMW sell a bike that can't be left on a damp road without problems, as a TRAILBIKE??? Beats me.
Love the bike though, and the dealers response and subsequent help (thanks Shaun).
Not good though, as you can't just dry it out and re-fit it. It knackers the part when it gets wet. This is the UK for gods' sake!
Anyone know any tricks I need to know for this component (and any others) to last into my third ride?
Rant over.
Phil.

- flat battery, broken drive shaft, leaking rear drive seal... any others? Oh - broken top box, broken rear rack, broken panniers... but they are not esential. And cracked wheels (cast type), but only if you use it as a GS. Oh same with the drive shaft - only if you use it as a GS for long periods.
