hi all !
on a ride out last sat the throttle on my gsa lc decided to not respond !
engine went to tick over and i pulled over on the hard shoulder .
i done this 4 times to try and get off the m5
i ended up on the phone to bmw and recovery
so tonight bmw where the bike is currently
phoned me to say they have cleared the fault codes
and basically thats it ????
whats to say this will happen again ??

Hmm, can't say I'd be happy with that answer. Going to a zero throttle demand part way through an overtake could be disastrous, as could be it sitting you up in a corner.

exactly my point ! the throttle just wasnt there
on a very congested m5
not fun .
i just hope they replace the fault throwing parts
its only done 3,600 miles

Probably the wiring connector on the bars for the throttle assembly.
I have heard of them being pulled out when adjusting bars or adding accessories like risers, check the plug is seated correctly (add some dielectric grease to prevent corrosion in the future)

Ok cheers I have broke down again , same problem , after a dealer had it, now with a different shop

Do you have a good relationship witj the dealer? It really shouldn't matter but I'd take it back to the original people so at least they feel some guilt and at least explain the problem better and what they have done to prevent it again...especially after happening twice. It's dangerous!!

Mate just take it back to the first place, and tell them you will be contacting your lawyer to press charges for attempted murder, because basically they put you back on the road in a life threatening situation, sling the book at them.

ffs really

I would want to know in writing what the recorded fault codes were (what they believe as experts have caused them ) and any remedial work carried out , inform the original dealer- again in writing- that the fault has returned and in your opinion that the fault is making the bike dangerous to ride and put the ball back into their and BMW's court

If you look over on the Adventure Rider site there have been a few mentions of a similar problem (the bike has gone into limp home mode), best to be armed with a bit of info re the fault before going back to the delaer

Yea, that'll work

So every unsuccessful repair is attempted murder !!

Yep it disconnects much like a USB plug and so all fly by wire contril is lost. You would have thought BMW would have designed in a locking latch like on their wiring plugs.

Bike went in to local B M dealer today regarding the limp mode issue. I was advised by the tech that when coupled up to their computer system he was advised that there was a software issue with the left hand "throttle flap". There apparently is a software fix for it supplied by BMW. He also advised he had another bike in to day with the same issue. Since last Saturday I have only had the problem arise twice with in two hundred miles use. Time will tell, but here is hoping.
