Considering a four day jaunt to Bretagne next Easter. What roads need to be tried and sights must be seen?

The only thing I have on my list at present is the U boat pens at St Nazaire.

Hi,

Can't recommend any biking roads as have only done it by car. Also it depends what you want to gete out of it/ see etc. However some places to maybe consider (in no particular):

Brest - Oceanolopis (huge aquarium)
St Malo - Walled town
Carnac/ Trinitie Sur Mer - Quaint seaside area
Quiberon (14km ithmus sticking out into the Bay of Biscay with a town at the end of it)
Gulf De Morbihan - Large natural harbour with lots of small islands
Ile d Oussant - (leave the bike behnd and visit islands for a day from Le Conquet)
Concarneau - Walled coastal town and cracking surrounding areas.

Hopefully that should help and if you put them into Google you'll find what I mean as I've probably spelt some of this wrongly. In terms of accommodation, there may well be camp sites open if that's your bag or it not there are loads of guest houses, hotels etc. One thought in terms of weather is that from experience this area can be robustly 'Anglo-saxon' in terms of the amount of rain and wind at that time of year. Meteorologically speaking it's the same as Cornwall with generally better food (no offense to any Cornish readers! ).

+1 for Iles d'Oussant and Le Conquet is a nice little town, great seafood too Take a run round the coast (Route Touristique) Roads aren't spectacular 'scratcher' territory but nice and quiet.

If you're into the U-Boat thing, call in at L'Orient en route to St. Nazaire, the pens are very impressive. There's a submarine museum there as well. Also some U-Boat pens in Brest but not sure if they are open to the public, I didn't have time to explore it last time I was there. Another Kriegsmarine base at La Rochelle but I didn't make it that far down as I cut across country to see the Normandy Beaches. Brief trip report here

Lovely area. Make sure you go to some markets and buy cheese and fruit and sausages and veg and take away grub made on the day and that kind of thang

There's a five-day tour of the region here that you can use/adapt as necessary (scroll down to the Tour of Normandy and Brittany) and there's a one-day ride around Quimper, which goes out to Pointe de Raz - the French equivalent of Land's End.

If you want serious sight-seeing, and are that far north, then Mont St Michel is a superb place but it does take a good half day (minimum) and some proper walking shoes to do it justice. As already mentioned, Quiberon's a lovely place in a sort of posh-French-Southend kinda way... Guingamp's a nice town. There are nice roads around Brest and Quimper (the Armorique national park and the Montagne Noir) and out onto the peninsula to Camaret sur Mer.
