Britain's Highest Roads

JB
Not UK highest roads but when in the US in 2006 I sought out and rode up Mount Evans in Colorado at 14,260ft,

In 2011, we could only make it up to Summit Lake at 12,830 feet as the road to the top was closed.

Cheers Andrew and Mick, for the updates

Mick, I've done some further research on the above and i'm going to have a better look at it, soon

PS - can we keep it to Britain's Highest Roads and not the USA & Europe;)

Well done Andrew -Thanks!

Did a couple more last weekend, with a fine group of UKGSER's (we actually did a few more, but I never recorded them, so that means a return trip, hard life ain't it:D)

No15 - the Great Southern Drove Road @ 614m

and No23 - Hartside Summit @ 582m

Last Friday, I had a short spin and 'bagged' another - No64 Oxnop Scar

Officially 498m, however my GPS recorded 504m at the highest point (the fork)

It is a gateway from Wensleydale, into Swaledale and one road I have done many times

However, this time I took the right fork down the UCR and over Satron Moor, a road I have never done before - I will warn you that there are 8-9 gates to open, so progress is slow, but good

Views of Swaledale, towards Muker were stunning

oxnop

You've never done it before, ffs what have you been doing for the last 20 years, so many roads so little time!!!!!!!!! Eh..you need to get out more.:D

The left fork, always..................never the right, until now:D

I follow you, some of the time and you can 'sniff' out some cracking minor roads

Must get out again

Going to have to check Nr 35 sometime soon - looks intriguing but I doubt rideable on anything with an engine. It's not far from me so when you get to Nrs 35 and 50 give me a shout and I'll get the kettle on :thumby:

Will do:thumb2

JB, are we considering other roads . I noted that the track/trail above the Barrel at Bretton and Flash Village are both above 400meters:thumby:

Nant Ffrancon looks like it should be in the Alps or Pyrenees. Looks amazing

Grasshills Causeway

This is an interesting thread!

Just spent the last 3 days doing a trail riding/camping tour of Yorkshire and NE area. Route was based on an Adventure riding feature that was in MCN(!) a couple of years ago.

All I can say is . . . what fantastic trails and roads there are in that region, plus what brilliant weather you've kept a secret :D Never really ridden much there, so will have to get back.

Anyway, I have yet to correlate our route with these roads, but here is a pic of #6, Grasshills Causeway, taken on Thursday morning (then up to the cafe for breakfast but had to wait for them to open :blast)
