Gutted, been looking forweard to this for 6 months! meant to be going this sunday via plymouth, no phone call, no sms, no nothing. Rang them half an hour ago and they confirmed no sailings this week end.

however there is always a bright side ( i hope) refund on its way circa £160. I have now booked poole to st malo going on sunday. An extra 500 mile but £75 better off. Plus I will be travelling over the pyrenees but unfortunately not spending my 1st day in the picos. Life throws many challenges and you just need to adapt. However I am peeved at wildcat strikes by the french - illegal in the uk! but thats the french for you!

Can anyone recomend a hotel with secure parking for my bike around nantes france?

cheers

Flipin heck! Hope it's sorted damn quick, off to Santander on 3rd and then on to marocco!
If its still suspended it will be a mad dash across France from Calais to Spain!!

I got stuck in Roscoff last Thursday 13th with a flash strike. Sat on the Tarmac for over 2 hours before being turned away. Not one announcement or phone call from ferry service. Told sailing was cancelled by third party. B&B for night and sailed next evening eventually. Can't claim anything back.

Roscoff: Expensive place to be stuck. B&B rates reflect the fact that it's quite a trek to get to anywhere else that might offer alternative accommodation.

I found myself similarly stuck there back in 2005 after a few months touring. The only B&B I could find was about three times the average price of the preceding months biffing about Spain and France.

The only satisfaction was to eat everything laid-out for the self-service petite déjeuner to the point where I thought that I'd almost got my monies worth, then return to my room, sleep it off and only leave at one minute before the check-out time.

I am booked on the Thursday over night ferry from Plymouth to Roscoff on my way to the Moto Piston rally in Spain. Hopefully they will have sailings going again by then as an extra 500 mile via motorways, A303 to Dover then back across Northern France will not be as pleasant as the bimble through Brittany and down the coast I had planned. Plus it willl mean a nights B&B. Still, Shit happens I guess. I hope my old Suzuki is up to it.

just got home from my trip to spain
turned up for my return sailing on thursday afternoon around 12.30 at santander, checked in, waited in the loading lane with everyone else and when we were due to load brittany ferry officials gave everyone a notice that there was a meeting on the boat to try and resolve industrial action. we were left waiting another 2 hours in the baking sun until around 4.30 we were given the news the ferry was cancelled and no hope of another for at least a week.
no other option but to set off and ride home. lots of very angry people.
to top it off it absolutely pissed down all day friday, kept meeting lots of very wet and cold brits on there way home at service stations.
got the tunnel this morning for the first time as i had had enough of ferries and was a very pleasant and hassle free experience, thanks dellis for booking it for me and saving me a few quid.
anyway all added to the adventure i suppose

Doesn't your travel insurance pay out for accommodation etc? :nenau

Was your sailing to Plymouth ?

In 'Ouest France' paper today.

After a two-hour meeting on Saturday night between the CFDT, CGT and the direction of Brittany Ferries, the negotiations are progressing slowly.

Negotiations continued late Saturday night, in the Brittany Ferries in the conflict between management and crew. At an informal meeting between Jean-François Jacob, vice-president of the BAI, and representatives of the CFDT and CGT, a roadmap has been established.

No rotation before Tuesday

"We made a proposal under discussion, which has not been completely rejected by management," say this morning unions, who noted the first step of the company.

The various parties agreed to meet again on Sunday at 15H00, to continue to seek a compromise. However, even if a framework agreement was signed today, "there will be no recovery boats rotations before Tuesday or Wednesday or Thursday," said Michel Cavorzin, CGT.

Meanwhile, the boats remain docked with their crews.

Was your sailing to Plymouth ?

no, to portsmouth

just had an email from brittany and as they announced at the port they will refund the cancelled leg of the booking and will contribute to onward travel costs back to uk

The French are notoriously militant.

I booked a moto-rail from Calais to Narbonne a few years ago and ended up riding most of it due to industrial action...

I have heard some people habitually book their cross channel ferries to Dunkerque rather than Calais because Calias is the port the fishing boats blockade at the slightest problem.
