broadband setup/test software

my sister has problems with her new broadband connection, I'd read somewhere about freeby software that you install and it checks out all your settings etc, I've got the same setup and we've compared settings over the phone, but she still can't get it to work, keeps getting a 718 error and it won't connect..... she may be doing something daft, but she lives too far away to visit and have a look........ any thoughts welcome?

a favourite error, if setting up connection using the xp connection wizard, is checking the "broadband" option when you should use the "make connection using dial up modem" [or similar] option.

i know it doesn't make sense, but that's the correct option for the UK.

also check the username/password in Dial Up Networking. IIRC username should include the @virgin.net, or whatever it is in your sisters case, unlike a plain old dial up connection.

ntl have 'broadband medic', but you need to connect to download...........................................
