PS. I pay a bit extra for free anytime calls, though never use it, so may downgrade

Pipex

I've been with Pipex for about 10 years now and on their Broadband for the last 3 years.
Never had any problems whatsoever!

SHITE

Have been with them for years from dial up to broadband. Was good until 18 months ago when their system started to take too much money out of my account and took months to get it back again. This continued despite promising that it had been sorted. Waited until the end of my contract back in December so that I could leg it and sign up elsewhere. Google around a bit and you'll see lots of unhappy customers going on about the same thing. Of course, as with all ISP's there are good experiences.

Run a fecking mile !

Contract with Shitex finishes next month.:oonyack

I presume you can tell that I'll be moving elsewhere. :D

Pipex used to be one of the best ISPs. One of the original owners is a regular contributor over on the usenet group uk.rec.motorcycles and many of the regulars there signed up to Pipex.

However, things move on and Pipex has been hoovered up by Tiscali. The service received is very different, especially for those using usenet. Consequently quite a significant number of Pipex users have moved to other ISPs because the peak time traffic shaping and throttling of nntp does not meet their needs.

For your tenner a month you probably get a good value service. If you are a heavy user or work from home using a broadband connection then the service is probably not for you.

Fine if you don't have any problems. If you do, then you have to try to use their "customer service". I stopped using them 6 weeks ago after 11 years....:mmmm

Shitex is spot on, was with them 1997 - 2006 - dial up, then broadband, 2005-2007 number of issues, brand new customers only blah blah. Transferred to Zen, same price as shitex but a completely positively different experience.

So who's good then? And does the choice of provider have any impact on the speed? I've got BT broadband at the moment - speed is p*ss po*r as I'm a long way from the exchange and would change if it would make any difference to speed. Service with BT is shite too but i can't face changing unless there's real benefit 'cos I just know it will go wrong, I'll end up getting billed by both old and new providers and neither will work for about a month.:thedummy
