Just took apart after much persuasion the stuck sliding rear caliper on the GS. Tokico type marked BMW. No fluid leak and pistons move ok. Curious that the flat end of said pistons is pointing at me- wrong way round (conventionally and according to Haynes book of Partial Truths.

Am I misinformed/just gormless? Suppose I could be right AND gormless?

Also grateful to know best place for new pads and rebuild kit for master cyl/caliper for posting to Portugal.

Thanks everyone.

They sometimes have a plastic cap on the ends of the pistons, it makes them look like they are in the wrong way round :thumb2 mind you they ought to work either way.

Good point- should have looked harder. Had to put it back together for the time being with very thin pad. Remind myself daily not to use back brake (ABS ripped off before I bought it).

Still love the beastie though.
