I usually agree with a lot of what you say however, on this one I am in the other camp.
Assuming the peg has not been damaged by the OP I think it is reasonable to expect it not to fall off a 3 year old vehicle. Just as it is not acceptable for a rear shock to fail after 9000 miles ( not me...a pal of mine...mine went at 18000 which I think is just about OK given the abuse it gets) or and FD to crumble in under 20k.
If the bike has been used within design parameters the failings are not acceptable by a "reasonable person" and on that basis should be addressed by BMW...which to be fair, they often are.
I'm also becoming a bit pissed off with things needing replacing on mine,
Thankfully I've always had the extended warranty.
In the last 3 years under warranty
Rear shock
Final drive rebuild
Gearbox to engine oil leak
Rear wheel bearing (10,000 miles after said drive rebuild)
And only last week I had the shaft drive replaced as the UJ decided to eat itself
Things not covered by warranty
Ignition switch,
Heat guard fell off exhaust,
Mainstand badly bent and twisted,
There may be more but I think I've blocked it out.
06 plate with 43,000 miles.
I've had far less trouble with my 15 year old TL1000s with 67,000 miles on the clock which hasn't had a dealer service since about 2001
