Broken screen adjuster - caused by aftermarket screen perhaps

One of the arms of my screen adjuster has broken; looks like it's fatigued through. The other one is cracked most of the way through but hasn't completely failed yet. I have the Puig touring screen, and the suggestion is that the additional wind load on the taller screen is too much for the brackets. Local dealer has seen the failure once before, also on a bike fitted with the Puig screen. Anyone else had the problem? I didn't want to fit the Cymarc screen brackets because I do adjust the screen up for motorway, and down for traffic.

I have the Cymarc brackets fitted with Standard GSA screen and it's still adjustable.

That's worrying, I nearly bought a pug screen, might consider a different one now!.
Thanks for sharing the info. Looks like it will be expensive to put right.

On the move?

Yes, albeit 3 adjusters to rotate rather than just the one.

The nutty, sorry nuts :P, that you can see on the insides of the Cymarc bracket are welded (as standard) to the Cymarc bracket so you only have to loosen the two thumbscrew fasteners and then you use the normal adjuster.

Once adjusted tighten the Cymarc fasteners again to prevent them working loose if you're on a journey/terrain where they may vibrate off altogether!!

Hope this helps. :thumb

I'm sure the Cymarc brackets are great, if you're the sort to worry about the screen wobbling slightly, but BMW has obviously designed a certain amount of flex into the screen. The fact that you have to stop to make any adjustment, thus eradicating the quick adjustment feature, I'll stick with the flexing screen (which I've not really noticed, as I normally look at where I'm going, rather than the screen ;)).

Back to the issue whether the PUIG screen contributed to jtb's present predicament.

I have an Isotta screen fitted to my '15 GSA, which is similar to the PUIG. And being concerned that the screen adjuster arms might break due to the extra wind loading of the larger screen I fitted a Wunderlich screen reinforcement on the left hand side. So far it seems to have worked. Will be fitting a Wunderlich Vario-Ergo+ 3D screen Deflector shortly as being 6'7" I need the extra coverage.

Warranty invalidated & hope your insurers have noted the screen change on your records or your insurance will be invalid too :)

Problem is, the Puig screen is the only one that gives decent wind protection, imho. It seems that the lower arm doesn't have much strength margin in it - so while it's ok with the stock screen, the additional wind load from the taller screen is just enough to cause it to fatigue.

That said, it's not an expensive fix - the brackets are about £30 the pair, and it took about half an hour to fit them.
