After a slight hiccup when I was running IE7 (it would not connect properly to smugmug) I uploaded Google Chrome to use as a browser, this worked OK initially but started to mess me about almost straight away, not allowing access to most sites, only allowing access to the site last visited.

So seeing as i am already a little 'at sea' with all this I decided to jump in head first and download Firefox. This browses OK and allows access to sites the Chrome wouldn't BUT it hasn't downloaded all the favourites from IE7:blast Some but not all:nenau

Is this normal? Can I have too many browsers on one PC?

Chrome is shit - it gave me so many problems at work that I have given up with it, it seems to store 8 gazillions bytes of unnecessary data in my profile and can't even do a simple thing like remember bookmarks - it is seriously flawed. I have gone back to the latest Firefox and so far it appears to be 100 gazillion times better than that Chrome shit.

chrome really feels best suited to a dual/multi-core processor and lots of RAM
so basically new computers
Firefox still has the same flaws of getting laggy
and Opera is stable but far to formal and not very intuitive

have you thought of going to one of the newer IE's?
7 is old and unsecure

Initially yes, i tried to find the update from ie7 to ie8 (can't do 9 on XP) but started to get a bit nervy about the sites that were offering the upload.

Both Firefox and Chrome were suggested by the SmugMug team so that's what I tried.

You should be able to upgrade to IE8 using Windows Update or Microsoft Update (on the start menu). You're right, don't download a browser from an unknown location, at best it will have adverts and branding all over it, and at worst it could be horribly trojaned.

Mind you, I don't use IE unless I have to - Firefox and Chrome are my preferred browsers too.
