A couple of years before I retired I bought a keeper ... an R1100RS, it would be paid for by the time I retired 
It was going to 'see me out' .... it was going to be with me forever
I think I've had at least eight new ones since then, and one or two s/h ones as well ...

Some peepes spend a hundred quid a month down the pub, some fishing, maybe gym membership .. (ok, not on here..!) and I don't mind spending that on a new bike. So I've done the BM finance deal thing.
The big test will be in three years time - do I pay off the final balloon payment, or chop it in again and get another
My two schools of thought are, that by keeping on with the deal (and for me, £100 a month is a fair enough sum to pay for my hobby) I'll always have a bike in warranty, which is a reassuring thought.
But ... will I be less inclined to farkle
rolleyes a bike that I'll probably change?? So yes - bits of hardware I can take off, but I'll be less inclined to play with stuff like Hilltop.Who knows. I do quite fancy a bike that I keep for a real length of time and slowly tweek it to how I want. Trouble is, in another five years or so there'll be another fan dangled super brilliant bike that I'll think ... 'ooooo gotta have that ...'

The £100 - £150 a month is a good deal, the trouble is these days, with all the modern electronics, you really need to swop every couple of years (two year warranty/recovery) write off the 100 - 150 a month and enjoy some superb motorcycling
.... or you go for a keeper, something that you really can maintain yourself, or with the help of a pal down the road
Now I really would like the new F800GS Adventure coming shortly, but at the very least it's gonna cost me £5K to £6K to swop
£5K to £6K is a lot of money to a mere pensioner, all together now ... sob sob
... but its also a lot of petrol, hotels, ferry crossings, visas, carnets, maps and bier tokens 
Soooo I'm sticking with what I've got, an F800GS with 90,000+ on her, and going for the 100,000 this year, and my likkle 'fun bike' the G650Xcountry

Only today I was thinking about chopping my GSA 2010 in for the new 800 adventure .
Rode my `Big Gert` in bimble and hoon mode today on some brilliant roads. Came on here read everyones words on your thread and confirmed to my old girl , `Youre a keeper` , dont worry, we are off again Sunday for another ride.

I saw Brunhilde today, all polished and gleaming, her looks defying her age. As Giles sat there this afternoon, sipping a beer, the sun must have been in his eyes as they were definitely watering.

I shall endeavour to be there to watch the handover tomorrow. Will it be love at first sight for the new mistress? Will there be instant bonding? Will I have to wait around on my K1200 for ages for him to catch up on the way home? Or should I take the 650 to reduce (although not eliminate) the hanging around?
