Been loving my new-to-me GSA these last 10 days or so and other than a couple of very little "nearlys" had no dropping issues despite being a mere 5' 9" and not leng-legged. :D
Bike's fitted with the low seat, which I suspect helps a lot.
Anyway, dropped in to NOG to let them have the original pipe for my (part exed) K1200S and picked up the two other seats they threw in free whilst I was there - standard GS1200 seat and the original GSA seat.
Bought 'em home and, like you would, tried 'em on the bike in the garage. Total disaster! The GSA seat is 87 times more comfortable than the low seat. It's gorgeous. Vastly more supportive, wider and firmer without being hard.
But it makes the bike, even on the "normal" ESAII setting, way, way too high for me. :tears
Will try the standard GS effort tomorrow when I'm out but still think I'm missing out...anyone got a 16th C rack?

Stupid question to ask, but did you make sure the seat was on its lowest setting.

Even at your height you'll get used to the size. Give it a few days on the lower seat until you get used to the GSA's size, and then give the GSA seat another go.

I'm the same height as you and use the normal GSA seat in the low position. It's fine though I have not yet braved the 2 up setting.

i find standard GS seat way better than GSA, i borrowed a 2010 GSA while my 56 plate GS was being serviced. It was rock hard compared to mine!

Happy as Larry on it with the low seat - been blatting across gravel and down tracks, no dramas at all. No probs at all. But on that lovely GSA seat I'm on toes on level ground and, if I were in my winter kit which has less leg movement, it'd be one foot or the other, not both.

If you've got panniers, then leave them on, with a little weight in them....it helps lower the bike a little.

Maybe a custom seat might be good for you...somewhere between the lowered seat and the standard Gsa one (I'm wondering if that might be the standard Gs seat height?). Maybe have the Gsa seat slightly lowered?

Sargent Seats do a lowered version that might offer more comfort..but they're expensive. I've got a standard height Gsa Sargent Seat and can't fault it for comfort once it bedded in.

And I think the standard height Sargent seems lower than the standard Gsa seat height (?) but because it is slightly wider it spreads your legs wider (ooo missus!!) and reduces your leg length.

Glad you're enjoying your new Gsa :thumb2

You're right, the GS seat is between the two. Will give it a crack tomorrow.
It's just the GSA seat was soooooo good.

Ship your GSA seat off to Tony Archer http://www.tonyarcher.co.uk/ get him to trim an inch out of the height and add gel pads (for comfort) and re-cover in the original so it looks standard, this is pretty much what I did (around £100 I think), whilst my seats were away I used a Sargent, when my "Archer'd" seats returned I sold the Sargent's, 'nuff said ;)

Great tip - may well do that Steve, cheers. In the meantime I sank four pints of Moorlands Original, came home, whacked the GS seat on and then drove it round the yard like a hooligan. Seems to work. :augie

Well done , you have discovered the correct way to check seat height and comfort! Now all you need to do is have eight more pints, put the original GSA seat back on and find that it was fine in the first place! :D
