Buggered old geezer does France...

If you are in that part of the world, you might find this useful:

From this thread:

Thanks Richard, we are there now. I have been before on one of Peter Wrights trips.
I'm afraid I thought it macabre ghoulish and horrid. Others will disagree snd Cherry has gone in for a gander while I sit in the sun.

We used to reinsure loads of brand new Volvo cars and cars being shipped in huge car transport ships from Gothenburg. There was often damage, when supposedly stable vehicles ‘hopped about’ in rough weather. Endless debates about whether the vehicles should be chained down or whether the fitting of the chains would cause more damage. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.
Remember the MV Tricolor....

So trundled down genrtly in the sun. Stuck to back roads in the main, and thus realised how crowded UK is!
Loads of space and no one in it. Acres of empty fields. Interested to see how far advanced the harvest is...even some ploughed after combining.
Arrived at our next lodgings at a far more civilised 1630...

An interesting run down the NVS...Nationale Voie Sacre.
This was the road down which thousands....and thousands...of french soldiers went to their deaths in the battle of Verdun.
I'd always understood it was the only road in France not to have a number, always referred to as the Voie Sacree, but I see the French, true to form , have succumbed to their love of 'order' and it is now the D1916.
They have a great regard for mileposts, although as they have yet to discover the joy of miles and yards, I suppose they are kilometer posts. The ones on the NVS are particularly ornate...20230706_111608.jpg

In order to prevent my faithful legion of followers becoming too vexed....or indeed vexatious....I should clarify that we were in fact 'vootling'
That is to say ALL of the above, but in a Volvo.
Let that be an end to it.

A grand day vootling about in the Morvan.
I know wappo has written about this region in the past but it's a great place to spend a few days.
Nice quiet roads, hilltop towns, stone buildings, shutters, gentle agricultural carying on charming villages....and no traffic, or folk. UK is crowded to bursting.... this place has space to spare.
Wifi too slow on le terrasse....I'll try again later...
