Buggered old geezer does France...

People....yes, you Micky...keep telling me I need a smaller bike....I DON'T WANT A SMALLER FACKING BIKE.....
So we'll see.... The euro 2 up trips are definitely finished now.
The very title of your excellent report says that you do Gerard .... 'Buggered old Geezer ....'

Concede that age comes to us all, if we are so lucky ... you and Cherry are having a lovely time in the car, and we're all enjoying reading about it (excellent photographs too I might add) but to continue motorcycling you might need to go to a lighter 'bike .... F A C T

You will either have to pack in motorcycling ... or downsize. You are not the fucking super hero that you think you are, it is not a question of not wanting, but more the question of how much you love your motorcycling ....

The Loire is a mighty river...one of the major French rivers. Though it is at low summer levels just now, it can be a destructive beast...we looked at one building in a village some way back from the river which had the mark of the 1856 flood level on a wall...the cooncil produce a map of information centres and refuges in flood times..20230714_153139.jpg

Interesting to see much mistletoe growing on the trees...20230714_154208.jpg

And to wrap up yesterdays reportage, a picture of my supper....I'm sorry about the teethmarks, but I often forget to take a photy until I've commenced mastication....usually too hungry.
I know its a burger...I've done it so as to distract from Chris's pizza addiction....but it's one of the best I've ever had..not often in Europe do you get asked how you want your burger cooked...this is rare. Scrumptious.

Good post.

Micky, along with the whole of this thread, is living proof (if any were needed) that you don’t need to have a huge motorcycle or indeed any motorcycle at all, in order to have a good holiday. Whilst this thread has taken us across France, other posts and threads have shown that it’s just as possible to have a great time not going very far at all or (as in the example of Doc’s Wangerland holiday) just going somewhere ‘different’. All in all, it’s just what you want to make of it.

I was lucky enough to swim, quite safely, in the Loire river one summer, staying at a campsite which bordered it. A great experience.

I very much hope so. The hip is as good as new....really...it is brand new..., but all the nerves got a right good jangling, and conspired with the plates across my lower spine from previous escapades, leaving me with limited mobility in the back and other leg. It is much better now than it was, so I will have another go at heaving my leg over when I get back. I can get on by standing on the left footpeg, and I know lots do that anyway, but I hate it! People....yes, you Micky...keep telling me I need a smaller bike....I DON'T WANT A SMALLER FACKING BIKE.....

In the meantime we are greatly enjoying our old folks tour of France profonde...no worries about gravillons, camber, holes, buses coming round hairpins, rain, packing, peages, spare skiddies, carrying duty free....2 more cases of Sancerre and Pouilly Fume today.....greasy decks, greasy sraps, greasy stokers and all the other things that make foreign bike trips such a joy...

You forgot chains/locks and worrying about bike theft, safe biker parking et al

Looks a fab trip and thanks for sharing - reminds me of a few road trips done in the 90’s by car to France and Italy

Not convinced by the Novotel, although the room was great, supper was good and the breakfast was very good.
BUT the hotel was busy, and full of enfants terrible. Children are ok I suppose but not running round a dining room. It's lucky that neither of us have ever posessed the parenting gene, far rather have dogs.
The only up side is that where there are children there are mums... :D

One can walk around the block and have a great holiday too.

I need to get into this food lark as your food looks delicious. I will eat owt but always revert to what we know. Difficult though when you don't understand the menu.

use google translate on a camera phone and it will translate the menu for you

although, sometimes ordering something you have no idea what it is can lead to some delicious discoveries. Disgusting dishes have been rare
