Buy into a 40kmiler 2017 GSA?

If its been annually serviced, not off roaded and the shaft etc has already been replaced?

Ive no problem running a bike upto 40k but never bought into one at this mileage.

Id keep it for 20kmiles and no doubt I'd do 7kmiles a year plus.

I see no problem assuming everything has been done at the right time. My "forever" was a 2017 registered and I reluctantly sold at 40k for health reasons. I had intended to keep it for another 40k and nine years before reviewing.
My paintwork was all nigh-on perfect.

I bought a 2017 65k miler earlier this year, runs very very well. Much better than anticipated

I sold my 2018 R1200R at 81k miles, these engines can do big miles. Just go off condition, history etc corrosion on shaft, engine etc is pretty common and normal and not particularly difficult to fix so as long as the price is right I'd not let it put you off.

Unless there's good evidence that they've been done recently the only thing I might factor in at that mileage might be F&R shock refurbishment. Not a huge cost and getting them off & back on is DIY doable (T-Tech are generally regarded as pretty good for refurbishment).

I’d thoughts of waiting for the new 1300 GSA but when I saw it, and ‘no way Jose’.

Bought my 2014 GS from here last year. Rides well. Very little corrosion. 100k miles.

You wouldn’t think it had more than 30k to look at it.

I had hoped to keep the bike longer but my body decided otherwise. Pretty sure it would go another decade.

Don’t be afraid. If bike is looking good and has a trustworthy maintenance history. Genuine, not just stamps in a book. Could give you sensible £££££ value for money.

I’ve talked myself out of a 20K new bike and hope my almost 11 year old 56K R1200RS will see me through another year or two. Or three.

I’ve had it from day 1 so I’m happy with its maintenance history. And I know it’s all day comfortable.

Our Blood Bikes get a bit of hard use, plenty of town work and all through winter.
We use RT rather than GS
But, they seem pretty good up to 75k miles or so, after which time we do get some bigger bills (had a gearbox fail recently with 85k miles, and clutches seems to last 75-85k miles...)
We normally replace them at 100k miles, and even then they sometimes fetch £3k!
Better than the wee kias we were using (in weather too foul for bikes)! They started with major issues at earlier miles - usually awful clutch judder (flywheel I guess) which wasn't covered by their warranty

Kias suffer regularly from clutch judder. It seems to be particularly when conditions produce condensation on the flywheel and first drive of the day.

I picked up an 18 plate exclusive with 60k miles on it, spent 600 having both shocks refurbished by T Tech and it feels and looks like a new bike. Buy on condition and history. My bike probably owes me half what the cost of a ’low mileage’ machine would have done, but I don’t have any concerns about putting the same mileage on it again.

I wouldn’t even think 40k was cause for discussion. Decent condition, fsh, I would have no worries.

My wife’s 2014 has 50K and she’ll be riding it to Greece in a couple of months and then, possibly to Senegal at Xmas.
In a couple of years she’ll trade down and I’ll inherit her bike - it’ll last me out.
