Buy or Wait?

No VAT?

How does pre registering them change things..... surely they have paid the std price from BMW and therefore by pre registering them and dropping price they have lost margin?
Does BMW stop them from Discounting and therefore they have to pre register to make it look like second hand?????
Me no savvie
Stuart:confused:

I guess it's something to do with the VAT (don't pay it, or claim it back)????
They still have their margin but suddenly Gordon doesn't get as much tax?
BMW UK doesn't like the dealers to give too much discount as it dilutes the brand and reduces residuals.
I was told by a car salesperson that the best time to buy was at the end of the month, even better if it's at the end of the dealerships' 3/6 monthly accounting period. Plus, dealers aren't bothered if something was registered at the end of one month or the beginning of the next since the vehicle is to all intents and purposes the same age.

BMW gave an incentive to dealers in Sept of additional margin so that they could shift plenty of GSs by doing good deals for people when pressed to do so.

I suspect this was to clear the current manufactures stock in anticipation of the new model.

I know this to be true, because when I first started looking a couple of people mentioned that I could have got a good deal if I'd bought last month :blast

I suspect that a few dealers took a punt and registered bikes themselves to be able to secure the extra discount (maybe it was volume related too :nenau) and are now passing the discount on to punters to try and shirt the stock before year end.

Williams offered me the very bike you mentioned - but after I'd already shaken hands on my deal. To be honest I'm happier with what I got, as it is the exact spec I was after, hasn't been pre-registered, and far more convenient to have my 1st Service too. :clap

Thanks chaps.... that does make sense.

I am assuming all this talk of an "upgrade" (all the dealers I talk to are acting dumb) is only to the GS... now approx 4 years old. Surely as the GSA (by far the more attractive anyway) is not even 2 yet this will not be getting an update???

Any thought or knowledge on this.

Glad you got what you wanted. That sounds about right. Just had my 1st service at Williams Manchester today and they seem to have bought a job lot, pre-reg'd them and have them at between £1200 - £1300 off list. They had one like yours without chrome exhausts at £8399.

Mmmm - might have to have a trip to Scumchester..err, Manchester this weekend :thumb2

Flip a coin. There are pluses and minuses either way. I am waiting for a 2008 model. (signed blindly for a delivery, whatever it will turn out to be)
The 2008 model will not be a Mark 1 I think. If any changes, not as revolutionary as rumored. Don't forget the current GS(A) is selling like hotcakes, so BMW would never risk a Mark 1 in this stage of it's life cycle. Mark 1.5 would be more appropriate. :D

My local dealer told me approx. 5bhp at the top end, a bit more torque and cosmetic changes - just a bit of a midlife facelift really.

Methinx, if it walks like a duck...

Heard lots of rumours about the 2008 GS update - but the dealers are playing it coy

But, they are offering lots of deals on the 2007 showroom stock, and can't supply one to a different spec as the production line is shut down.
...
Should I cut a deal on an unregistered bike, or should I wait a while and see what happens - and risk losing out if they sell the stock :nenau

... and talks like a duck

Allen Jefferies have several pre-registered R1200GS's in stock, all with ABS, white lenses, computer and heated grips. Price is list -£750 or my 2006 K1200S + £2000.

... Then perhaps there are unsold 12GS's available 'cos sales are lagging production, especially if they've been log-jammed into the showrooms to clear the factory over-run.

... As a proud 12GS owner I can rest assured that it is reaching the end of it's prime market life 5yrs? It will very soon need smartening up :blast

... But you have to decide sometime, if you like duck and they've got the duck you want go for it :thumb

I think they're selling quickly. I would definitely ask them to throw in some accessories as it's the time of year when any sales are a bonus.
IMO I think sales of the 08 will be slow due to the amount of 07's the dealers are shifting.

More a version 1.2 rather than a 2.0.
I was told it would have the R1200RT engine ie ~10bhp more. Probably different gearing though. A few cosmetics and maybe an all in one 'safety' package of ABS/Traction control/Tyre Pressure etc
