Thinking of buying a 800 got a budget of 5k-6k don't really want Anything with huge miles as my daily commute 50miles a day
What should I be looking out for? Other than a full service etc..
Any common faults/problems looking at the market I should be able to pick up a clean 2010 plate by the looks of the market
Cheers in advance

Check the usual .... head bearings, wheel bearings, chain and sprockets, corrosion on the engine casings

Other than that buy with your eye and a hunch ... if it looks nice'n pretty and well cared for, with a good service history, then go for it.

Overall condition is more important than mileage in my book. Mine still looks like new (2008) at 110,000 miles :thumb2

Good luck

Wot 'e sed :agree

I agree with Micky plus check all recalls, etc are complete.
I had an early 800gs (09) and loved it.
Think the later models had a revision to the headstock bearings to eradicate some complaints of head shake/tank slappers - so the salesperson said at Jeffries bmw.

I'm looking at getting another as I regret selling mine and will try to get a deal on the newer version.

All the bling is great, but I wouldn't be too bothered about the vario boxes, I'm sure someone will say they're great but I thought they were shite TBH, I suppose what I'm trying to say is don't worry about the plastic boxes being a deal breaker as such.

Rocker cover gaskets leaked, some had stalling issues and OE chain and sprockets should have been replaced under warranty already. That said by the time the 10 plate 800's came out all these issues should have been resolved.

There are a bucket full of threads about upgrades on here and I'm sure that most will say the 800 is a great platform to start farkling so that you have the bike how you want it - seats screens etc.

Good luck with your search

Hunt down the latter version is the advice from me. I don't know what they did to the suspension, but mine has the dynamic option and is far ahead of the 2010 bike I had previously. The other plus is NORMAL switchgear so the indicators are controlled from your left thumb.
Save up a little bit more and the late 2012 onwards come into your budget, I paid £6800 for my 63 plater off this here forum.

Don't forget the
F650GS is also a great bike and runs on tubeless tires and get better fuel mileage and uses a lower grade of fuel. 117,000 miles and going strong.
