Hi guys
I am looking to buy a 1150gs got a budget of no more than 4k I have look through the forum found 1 or 2 things corrosion on engine case fork brace etc.
But my question is what faluts crop up on the GS and what should be looking for when buying one.

Cheers Mech

I take the lack of replys is because the GS 1150 has no faults :P

It's a really difficult question to answer...... Some owners have very few/or no problems at all, other may tell a different story. One you will have to make your own mind up on!

I've used my 1100 & 1150 for over 50K miles and only ever had to replace consumables/service items.

If a bike has followed the service guidelines, certain parts are replaced/checked at regular intervals, this can be a good preventative route to solve potential future issues.

I guess things like clutch wear is one to watch for, but these can go from 15k miles I think I read on here. Paralever bearings are a common failure, but are checked at service intervals too.

The main thing for me has been the surface finish, I've replaced fixings on both bike with stainless, the 1150 has a few rougher spots that all seem to suffer from.

I may just be able to find you a decent (within a fairly close distance too) bike within your budget too, but for that you may need to become a sponsor to PM me :augie ;)

Good luck with your search :thumb2

DiRE magazine Jan 2007 did a roundup of used big trailies and the 1150GS came out top.

They may do back issues and if you'd join I could send you a scan of the review if you're interested.

Apply the usual checks as you would to any bike. The main problems are corrosion,as stated.I would also check for play in the rear wheel(common bearing problem).
