:clapHi I am about to buy a R1200GS and would like to say hallo to all the members. Ron...

Hi Ron

Well done, you will love it! I've had mine about 4 weeks now and just clocked up the first 1,000 miles. Really enjoying the bike, sole and recently two-up. Great bike!

By the way, Stealth Black is the fastest colour!:P

Hi Ron,

I agree with Outtomunch..........red paint/black panels & spoked wheels is the way forward

Enjoy:thumb

I do believe that the Black with silver panels are faster - it's something to do with a better drag drag coefficient thus:

The drag coefficient is a number that aerodynamicists use to model all of the complex dependencies of shape, inclination, and flow conditions on different types of colour for GS1200's. This equation is simply a rearrangement of the drag equation where we solve for the drag coefficient in terms of the other variables. The drag coefficient Cd is equal to the drag D divided by the quantity: density r times half the velocity V squared times the reference area A.

Cd = D / (A * .5 * r * V^2)

The quantity one half the density times the velocity squared is called the dynamic pressure q. So

Cd = D / (q * A)

The drag coefficient then expresses the ratio of the drag force to the force produced by the dynamic pressure times the area.

Put quite simply: The red bike can never be as fast as a black one unless you do this:

Cdi = (Cl^2) / (pi * AR * e)

Whre the aspect ratio is the square of the plasticky panel bits, the more-or-less useless screen and the rather strange rattling sound divided by the tyre cross section area A.

AR = s^2 / A (it's not possible)

enjoy yer bike........ :beerjug:

Hi Ron and all on the site, :beerjug

Just joined the forum tonight and i'm just about to sign up for an all black GS1200 as well. The proper colour for all bikes!

I have three mates who are GS owners and all love them to bits. :clap

Bit of a shame that the 1200 is a bit rattly, but seems like it will be ideal for a winter bike up here is sunny Scotland. If they are as good as absolutely everybody says, then i'm sure I will get used to all those funny noises!

Black is best ...

... not that I was influenced by the rider. 6'00" blonde & gorgeous, female Dutch bike cop :thumb2

.... who sold this bike and bought a KTM instead :augie

btw: Rumours had it that a new(ish) R1200GS model is comming out later this year.
All BMW factory tours have been canceled, so they could be hiding something. Could be the 800GS as well??

Who knows..

Just been told by the local dealer that there are some good deals to be had this month.

This is my first post and I am a slow learner on the old Computer so bear with me please.
I take delivery of my first R 1200 GS (Night Black) on the 1st September. Traded in my R 1150 RT after a test ride.Much smoother and revs better,couldn't believe the weight reduction 56k i'm told.
I had a Blackbird before the RT which I found gorgeous but NOT comfortable,sold it before I lost my licence or killed myself.
Now I much prefer the "Boxer" lump.

Hello Eddie,

I'll keep an eye out for a new ,black GS - I think that's three 1200's around Oban now plus a 650.

West is (biking) best!

Hi Wully,

We now have three 1200's in Strathfillan glen alone! Two 07 in black and a slightly older one in blue.

Hope to bump into you (not literally!)around the area sometime.

Nice to finally get some dry miles in this year. The rain may not stop us westies from riding but it makes it more of a pleasure!!

Sorry if my posts have a big time gap between them but i'm not on the computer too often.

Eddie
