Bike can look immaculate but have very bad corrosion hidden under the fairing. Rider seat cover splits and tears easily. Check wing mirror mounting points aren’t bent and fecked. Check fairing isn’t cracked around the lower cylinder mounting points. Bolts holding the bars to the top yolk can seize and are a bastard to remove if they snap, you’ll need to undo them if the fork seals need changing so if they are seized a simple 20 minute job turns into a long saga. Check the filler cap isn’t letting water past where it fits to the fairing . … I love my 2003 single spark RT

Test ride an 1150 and a 1200. I might come in for some stick but I did about 20k miles on each and much preferred the 1200. Whatever suits your riding style and budget but give yourself an informed view before committing.

i have a r1250gs and a k1600gt but i am just as happy to ride my r1150rt ,its just a good allrounder

i have killed my gs1150 , and figured , it is similar , but with more bodywork. and servo brakes.
the rt i have found, but not seen , is cheap but looks good, ie no marks on the mirror pods or bodywork.
don't want a 1200 .

Nooooooooooooo what happened to the 1150?

shattered cam chain blade and guide on rhs .
why you need spares ? aeroflow screen ? Verns ? touratwat boxes? bigger Verns ? wheels , steering hard part ? ohlins rear ?

Surely that’s an easy rebuild for you?

Or does that incident suck hundreds of little parts into all the corners!

engine split , and clean , then do both sides while it is apart , all seals and gaskets = goodbye £400 . it owes me nothing , like an old horse , it will be off to the knackers yard. in the process of striping off stuff to keep/sell , helps lessen the financial pain . have found an RT at far to cheap money , off to see/buy it on Sunday.
it's a shame it had been a great bike.

How much for the steering hard part? :nenau

udders i'll get back to you when i've broken off the hose bit from the yoke. if it doesn't fit the RT.

...we are with RT , 59k miles , shiny red with 3 boxes ,MOT , good tyres , de-abs'd , no "dropmarks " but a slipping clutch . £1000 .

anyone ever put Verns on an RT without cutting bodywork and Verns framework ? ? is the frame the same underneath ?

£1k ? Were you wearing a mask ? That’s a steal even if you do need to replace the clutch. When mine started to slip it turned out the seal in the slave cylinder had failed, and brake fluid was travelling along the push rod and getting spun outwards onto the clutch plate. I could probably have got away with replacing the slave and cleaning the clutch, but I’d already bought the whole kit and while it was apart, it made sense to replace the lot. Will you do the work yourself?

it was up for £1200 on gumtree , i kept thinking it was too good to be true. looked shiny , mot , not being used. had a spin round the town and up the bypass clutch slipped at 3.5k rpm , pointed this out , offered £1000 , he took it , shoved it in the trailer and came home .
i'll put a clutch in, and get the rag and bone man , up the road , to do the gearbox , while i go over the rest of the bike .
it needs a taller screen , but i'll tax it tomorrow and put it on my insurance , whizz it around a bit , and see what goes wrong ! as long as i can keep the spend below £500 , i'll be happy.
