Just turn up- severel different ferry companies do the crossing, a boat leaves almost hourly.

Don't get a ferry ticket at the booth's at the roadside on the way to the port. Get them in the ferry terminal, try a few and see who gives you the best price.

Entering Algerceiras from Malaga direction you pass a retail/industrial park on the left. There's a place there that sell tickets considerably cheaper than we've found anywhere else...I think Fanum took the waypoint.

We were there in November and I think Bill saved around £150 on the usual fare with a vehicle and large trailer.
We weren't the only ones there either, word must have got around as there were several nationalities buying tickets.

You don't need to book providing its low season, I even travelled to Ceuta on different day than what was written on the ticket!

Here are the websites of the two main agents crossing from Algeciras. you can check out the timetable (they operate at different times). We crossed over with one and returned with another on an open ticket, it worked out cheaper for us that way.
