Isolation Adaptors / Ground Loop Eliminator?
I have a Zumo 550 and Autocom Super Pro Avi which is connected to my phone via Bluetooth! I did have a Ground Loop Eliminator [GLE] when it was fitted to my VFR and when I swapped it to my 2006 1200GS, I found that the GLE made no difference at all, so I removed it. The set up worked very well on the 1200GS for almost 3 years.
I bought a 1200RT in November and fitted the Autocom almost straight away and wired the bike for the Zumo above the clocks. I have just bought a Migsel Sat Nav mount for the RT this week and was fitting it to the bike yesterday. All went very well, except that I now have an annoying buzzing noise all the time!!
I sold the GLE on fleabay last year!! My mate had two ‘spare’ filters, which are shown on the photos, but on closer inspection of them, one has a 3 pole pin and the other has a 4 pole pin but neither gets rid of the buzzing. In fact with the 3 pole one, I get no audio at all from the Zumo!
Anyway, on closer inspection of the wiring on the bike and the various instruction manuals, I am a bit confused as to where I have gone wrong this time as the 1200GS and the 1200RT both have Canbus and should be no different??
The Zumo and the Autocom are hard wired to the bike and I now see from the Autocom leaflets that I have that I should use a Ground Loop Eliminator but there seems to be so many to choose from.
I also see on line that the standard music lead [Part 2245] is a 3 pole to a 4 Pole! I must confess I have not noticed this before but I assume that the 3 Pole plugs into the Zumo and the 4 Pole to the Autocom?? The Garmin manual makes no mention of what the 3.5mm plug is! [3 or 4 Pole]
Oh, and just to complicate things, when I fitted the cable for the Zumo, I had to use an extension lead as the Autocom is at the rear lights and as I was not really aware of the 3 Pole / 4 Pole scenario, that connection ‘may’ be causing an issue too as I have no idea if it is 3 or 4 Pole. I will have to strip the panels off the bike to get access to my neat installation that I hoped I would never have to reveal for a long time. Haha!!
So, now that I have outlined the issue, can you answer the following;
1. Why did the set up without the GLE work on the GS and not the RT?
2. I will replace the lead and extension with a new 2 metre long lead, confirm that the 3 Pole end goes at the Zumo and the 4 Pole end at the Autocom.
3. What GLE should I buy?
4. What is the ‘all red’ filter for? It might be a 1285. [photo]
5. What is the red and black filter and what is it for? [photo]
Thanks, Keith
