Its gone after 4 months. Not the bike I hoped it would be. I really wanted to like it.

Its too wide for filtering in traffic. Joke switchgear for the indicators. I was just waiting for something to go wrong, given the number of issues raised on this forum.

Good point - I sold it for what I paid for it.

The mint condition 10K mile NX650 Dominator I have to replace the GS suits my purposes 100%, and for 20% of the sale price of the GS.

What went wrong with your one ?

Glad it suits you:thumb Wouldn't fancy a two up journey to the continent on a Dominator...too cramped.

Horses for courses

Did you actually go anywhere on the GS, other than around town?

Having had both a Dom' (great bike) and several GS's I can see why you think the Honda better suits town riding as it's way lighter, though it's bars aren't that much narrower than a GS and once you get used to the GS it's actually quite nimble, it just needs a bit of confidence. For distance, especially if loaded, there's no contest as the Dom' is like sitting on a plank and has the stopping distance of a supertanker.

As for reliability, my GS is heading for 75,000 miles and 4 winters without a problem, my Dom' did 20k and one winter before it started to suffer.

You shouldn't take too much notice of what's written in the forum..

Chalk and cheese really as other than both pretending they could go off road they are completely different bikes, but that's what you're saying and if you're now happy that's what matters.

Bye bye.

I thought the same about filtering after a recent trip across London. Altho I have had my GS over a year I had never had the need nor wish to go into a busy city. After 10 mins watching scooters and pizza boys whizzing round me I thought 'bollox' and went for it. Filtering ? no problem, but still wouldnt like to do it everyday.

I still have tiny nagging doubts about my GS mainly because of issues raised on this forum, but I love it and when I change it in a year or I will get another unless Mr Honda brings out a world beater which I somehow doubt.

Ive got a velosolex, great for filtering, no funny indicator switchgear and when it conks out on me I lift the engine off the front wheel and pedal!!:bounce1

The 12 GS is not really a town bike and if you bought it for that, you were kidding yourself from day one. It will excel where your Domie wont, long trips ( I guess in your case thats longer than 35miles) most of us use ours for going to different countries not suburbs.....

As for the "bike for 20% of the cost" I guess that sums up your BMW experience -- Clearly they are not for you.!

BTW I've had several Domies, XL 600s and Africa Twins, and tossed in 2 XTZ 750s along the way....

None of them are a patch on my 12GS, in build quality, ride, performance, or for that matter dealer back up.

So I guess you pay 20% of the cost and get 20% of the bike...... Enjoy.

A problem filtering on a GS !!
I could squeez through any gap a scooter can, if my wiskers can get through than so can I.

4 months of ownership and 45 posts? :surrender

Thanks for your contribution and don't let the door catch you in the arse on the way out :dabone

Get a bus pass,f**kin' dommie better than a gs my arse,oh wait an entry level gs oh your probably right:thumb

Keep it on the nice side now chaps - this isn't the pub you know ;)

And i would agree that four months of round town riding is not what I would think is the best way of assessing the superiority of a GS :augie

vot iz filterzing!

qu:why was a gs made?ans: `cause the krauts like invading things well they did in 1937 or 9 or what ever. all you have to do on a gs is make you own space to filter, they see the headlight and shift if they dont you pull up beside them and blip the throttle that sideways sway always freaks them out!the dommies a great bike tho, but nowhere as good as it was in years gone by

The bigger the bike the bigger the gap they want to give you, they hate having their wing mirrors removed.
Had far less hassle filtering on the GS ADV than I do on my sportsbike far easier to handle with wide bars and the forward view is a godsend.

Filtering on a GS

I cannot see that there is any problem, even for a relatively inexperienced rider, to filter through the traffic with a 1200GS. The seat is high, your body is upright, the bike is well balanced and will travel very slowly in 1st particularly the 08 onwards models with lower gear ratios. Of course in France it is made easier because it is what motorists expect and as soon as they see you (and that will be sooner on a GS) they will pull aside and you can travel through 'les bouchons' with the road opening up - yes, it really is like that in this region anyway. It can be tedious on any bike to cover mile after mile though a major traffic jam - but at least on a GS you are sitting comfortably. There are three simple rules : Don't weave from one lane to another. Don't overtake another bike doing the same thing, Don't travel much faster than the other traffic.

After 500 miles at speed on a Z model CBX in >100 deg F weather, as much as I love a CBX, I wish I had been on a GS for some of the course. It does everything well. :rob

Now't wrong with the GS, probably down to rider ability to handle the mass in a tight situation, hey ho! each to his own.
4 months isn't time enough to give a fair assessment.
I've had no problem with my 06 GSA in 20,000miles, and I don't sit in traffic, you get the odd tw*t who shuts the gap, but I just wait for a safe gap to open and wave as I pass em anyway.

Bye bye. never had any prob filtering on my gsa or capponord before that or any bike I have had over the last 30+ years bar my 100/7 with large side car JJH
