bye bye 800

Hi Jon,

I wanted to chip in that I've enjoyed your posts too as well as the odd PM. Very sorry to hear about the bike...but think of it as a pause in biking until the Tiger Cub is released, or whatever big thing is around the corner.

Thanks anyway for your excellent posts, Jonathan. Your attitude is stellar and makes appreciating one's own privileged situation a humble subject.
Expect you back in the near future when you've sorted things. :beerjug:

had a thought, how about a small donation to the 'Help John keep his bike' fund, enough donations should tie him over to keep his bike till better times.
If you agree John, please send me your paypal email address to deposit some funds. :thumb

Cheers Twisticles. I have lots of new ideas floating around at the moment which lets say will be fun trying to get to fruition.

Many thanks F650. I still count myself lucky. I feel for the guy that lost his license on here because a woman knocked him off his bike and the doc said he was not fit to ride again. There are others through illness who have also been off the road for a long time. It could always be worse. :beerjug:

Amazing generosity Zippy but I suspect that even if I paid the full amount off today the official receiver or court could still order me to hand the bike over as an asset despite me being able to register it in another EU state. Cheers anyway :thumb

I don't post much.
I don't own a BMW, or even a bike at the moment.
But I've gotta make some comments here.

Firstly, Jon, I'm very sorry to read about what has happened to you. Your upbeat spirit and attitude indicate to me that you deserve to do well and will do well - you'll recover and you have my best wishes for the future. Keep your chin up, chap.

Secondly, I don't know who this total prick is that has tried to kick you when you're down. But whoever you are, fuckstick, little le800gs or whatever your name is, get a life, son. You have really embarrassed yourself on this forum and shown yourself to be a thoroughly nasty little man (?) and a coward to boot.

Thanks Lapin, I really appreciate the positive thoughts. I'd be interested to know who that person is. A moderator would know by the email address they used to register. Reverse IP lookup etc could be used but then again I feel that would be expending too much energy on someone who is not worth giving the time of day to.

I just wandered into this thread...having been far too self obessed to notice before.

sorry to hear the news, I'm still working on some web work for you and will let you know if it turns into anything.

:thumb2

Cheers Lo-IQ. I'm hoping to shift away from the web a little bit. I've been a web designer/developer since 1994 and I've lost my mojo for it now. The complexities of mixing CSS with ASP.net, PHP, XML, J-Query, Xhtml, C# etc leave me cold.

Now that I am back to square one it could be a good opportunity to start from scratch and choose something I enjoy doing. It would be nice to make money from riding/filming/editing but it has been done to death already.

all ideas on a post card :D

cheers

Jon :clap

why does making money have to revolve around motorcycles? why not be a camera op, if it's something you enjoy and want to become better at it then. It could be an obvious direction, don't really kow anyone in Austria but they must have telly and corporate producers. WHy not tap them up? plus you have a skill which is english if your german is okay then you already have a step up.

for example just runners not camera op get between £75-100 per day as long as you get stuck in are seen as keen there is money in it.

just a suggestion...

opertunity as far as I've worked never comes knocking you have to go and find it... best of luck

Indeed. It doesn't have to be motorcycle related. After 3 months intensive lessons the German is OK but I'm not good enough yet. So I might be looking back in the UK.

Like you say. You can't wait for your ship to come in. You have to swim to it :thumb2

well if it's London based you have the white book which lists everyone who anyone, (I'm not in it):blast

work out what you want to be, leaf your way through it and carpet bomb them with emails or do an internship with your chosen target.

there's also "skill set" it's a sort training thing for production folk, offers training and advice. "Production people" it's a sort of employment agency and there's heaps of web based groups even the union BECTU or BECTA? offers helps and info.

there you go I don't know if that helps or not?

I would say all of the industry has taken a big knock since the credit crunch, freelance rates are down considerably and hours are up. Even the shady end of production (porn) has metaphorically speaking has seen the arse fall out of it's market sector.

So there's no certainity and I spoken with lots of freelancers who are all heading into IT and web for security and a steadier wage. Or tesco's to stack shelves.....:augie

Hi everywherevirtually

Sorry to hear about your situation, I'm new here but recognise your
ID from ADVriders(?) as a small note I've been through the bankruptcy
thing recently (ish) sell house/toys etc, it ain't a whole lot of fun but it
does get better (honest), and if anything it made me think about what is
important to me and work towards making that happen.

So I guess, as the old saying goes chin up and don't let the
basta*ds grind you down.

Take it easy & keep it shiny side up.

Much appreciated RML. Very encouraging words. You are right about the important things. It's family, friends and the guys on here :thumb2

I'm also happy that some of the accessories will go onto friends bikes and will continue on new journeys. Bit like a donor transplant :D I know that my TT brake fluid reservoir protector will be going from London to Cape Town :bounce1

I also didn't notice "lil800GS" on the European roads he was at pains to point out I'd be missing...

he wasn't out there today...

Thanks for the support guys.

The 800 has now left the building. The guy who came to pick it up was an interesting chap. It is now off to the Auctions in Peterborough so if anyone fancies a bargain that has been well looked after yet has seen a bit of the world I reckon it will be popping up in the next few days.

Please tell me you aren't going to put GS stickers and a black and yellow paint job on it Jonathan ?? :augie

I kid you not Simon I had that thought about 20 minutes ago. The bike is going to be satin black and I was looking at that part of the tank and thinking I wonder just for a laugh if Humvee Graphics do the amber GS sticker. It would look lovely there as a kind of tongue in cheek homage to the old steed :augie

Even with Steve's finest graphics I doubt it will get you to Siberia mate... :augie

Sounds like a wee bit of a challenge to me.... :augie :D

I wouldn't have been happy with those straps over the seat or the ones rubbing the plastic panels by the tank on the GS, still I guess it's not your worry anymore, unfortunately... :(
