I'm trying to connect a Nokia 6310 to a Hp nx9105 laptop.

Although I seem to get the phone recognised using either BT or IR, I canot get a dialtone.

The cable connection, which is phone to USB, does not seem to be recognised (ie as plug & play) - and the phone connection soft ware (orange) only mentions serial not usb.

Any roadwarriers got any thought on which is best to persevere with (bt, ir or usb) and what I might be doing wrong?

The Orange software says it has registered the phone as the modem successfully?
:(

The 6310i bluetooth is very flaky. Someone at my work spent ages trying to get it to work reliably with their laptop.

Various BT dongles tried, phone hung regularly too.

If someone else is paying you'd be better off with a GPRS card.

It can depend on how old the 6310i's are. I've found a marked difference in the Bluetooth functionality between different 6310i's of varying ages.

Nokia seem to update their bluetooth firmware every now and again and it seems to fix problems. Trouble is - I don't know how you go about getting the firmware yourself.

Have you only just bought the phones? Can you get your supplier to ensure they at least have the same firmware?

The phones vary between 12 & 18 months old.

They are great no-nonsense business phones with 7-10 days battery life but I cannot seent o get them to recognise the laptop via BT, IR or Cable.

But, this morning I did manage to get my Ipaq pda to link up via blootooth and instruct the phone to dial the correct ISP number so I am beginning to suspect the laptop.

Q. When a laptop tries to use a mobile as a modem, does it use it's own internal modem first thence on to the mobile or is it just direct to the mobile. Somebody said that a defective internal modem could be the problem but that doesn't make sense to me.
