I just got a cig lighter & USB connector. This was recommended by someone here a while back (ebay item 190881490808). Can someone pls advise on the best routing from the battery to the front panel or bars? I hope the tank does not have to come off...! I did try searching but could not find it although I am sure this has been raised before.. Thanks

The sockets are watertight so I won't need a cover for the bike whilst it is outside... :hide

Pull the side panels off the tank.

Run the cable along.

Cable tie, if and as required.

Put back side panels.

No pictures required. Imagination optional.

Keep to the left side rather than the right.
You can satisfactorily route cables without taking the tank off .... but they will likely hinder tank removal in the future (servicing), so you guessed it, the pukka way to do it is to remove the tank!

left side under the tank. there's a small gap you can get a cable down. i used a piece of twin and earth mains cable as a "mouse" to feed it down ;)

doesn't hinder tank removal, which is not that big a deal anyway as long as it's empty(ish).

.

Excellent, thanks. I hope to be able to post this afternoon in the 'what did you do to your bike today'. Thanks again :thumb

Why not connect to the socket on the left hand side? Just expose the cables for that socket and use scotchblocks to connect. Remember; Black to blue and red to brown.

Dont use scotchlocks. Sooner or later they break the wire and always let in corrosion. Ideally use the W shape crimps and ideally a dab of solder to be sure. Not too much as it wicks along the wire.

Dont pull cable ties too tight as this creates a stress point on the wire and can chafe the insulation and/or frame paint.

The tank is easy enough to take off but make sure its not carrying much fuel. The GSA tank is a nightmare to bolt back in place when its full. While its accessible, ACF-50 the steering A-frame.
