Caen to Clermont Ferrand

I'm planning a trip to France for next year and wondered if anyone can recommend some nice village free'ish national roads from Caen to just south of Clermont Ferrand. I'll have a day to ride it so looking for fast'ish roads rather than mile after mile of slower twisties.

Arm yourself with Michelin's Route Planning 726 map. It is exactly what it is for.

If you still want more, invest in a Michelin 1:200,000 scale map.

No problem.

They are good maps as they cut out all the crap and / or unnecessary detail.

OK they are useless if you want to find that twiddly little D road someone half remembers from some trip or other years ago, or find anything outside of some largish towns.

But that is not their purpose, which is to make crossing a large and largely empty country easier on some half sensible roads.

Use with confidence.
