https://g.co/kgs/RsZ6wMe The Main Street bookshop and cafe/bistro is an excellent stop off for anyone heading north or south on the A68.

Time was, I'd have avoided the 68 like the plague. Now all the speed cameras have been deactivated (on the Scotland side anyway) and the road surface is very good, it's a joy to ride.

The cafe is just off the main road, has very good grub and coffee and a wide range of books to browse.

A great stop to chill for a while.

We need a test pilot to rattle those cameras to give them a test; send us your reg and i'll sort it out;

Used to go to a great little cafe / tea room in Braemar just up the road from the hotel. Gordon’s I think it’s called. Stopped many a time. Great bacon roll

I have paid to stop at Loch Ken and will be going to Ayr and back a couple of times in September.

The Coo Shed is decent, can get very busy. Will be just off your route coming from Loch Ken just before Ayr Hospital

A bit more than a coffee stop maybe? For those who want a couple of days in the Scottish Borders, I'd recommend The Horseshoe Inn in Eddleston. Her nibs and I dropped in yesterday for a meal which was excellent and very good service too. Until then, I'd no idea that the place also did rooms. Eddleston is ideally situated for runs up to the capital and east and west along the Tweed valley.
